Chez Gudule — Restaurant in Brussels

We went there for Valentine’s Day.

It was extremely busy and they stuck tables very closely to each other leaving us no privacy (10cm from the other)

The waitresses were not friendly, they were criticising customers in a corner, one was pregnant and asked the other waitress to touch her belly, one was shouting at someone, and so on.

The music was too loud for us to talk.

My glass of wine was served so small… for 6 euros the glass I would have appreciated a bit more in my glass.

As you can read it was a chaotic evening. Luckily my boyfriend enjoyed his food while I was unable to cut through my thick pieces of tataki 🥲 sometimes less is better, it was burned, cold and difficult to chew.

I believe it would have been better with a lower crowd but I don’t have the nerve to try it again sadly…

“Chez” is located just a step away from from the Cathedral of San Michele and Santa Gudula, easily reachable by metro (Parc stop). The restaurant - which has recently reopened - explodes with joy! Vintage-style environment with a cozy and warm atmosphere: I recommend the upstairs room which is like sitting in a living room from another era.

LOCATION Vintage style with industrial influences: every detail is a discovery. More rooms and also a very nice outdoor area.

STAFF Very young, kind, professional: excellent! Well done

FOOD The menu offers Asian-style food but with a Belgian touch that makes the difference: the preparation has a Belgian imprint. Strong and decisive flavors: the spicy notes are beautiful. I recommend the red curry shrimp, served with rice. Absolutely adequate prices

If you look for a place to celebrate an event, do yourself a favour and avoid this place. I celebrated my birthday here, and it was the most terrible experience ever and a waste of money. The staff ended the party around midnight, instead of as agreed around 3 am for the reasons that they found empty beer bottles in outside the bar. They calculated how much we spent and apparently, they decided that we are not bringing them enough money for the night, so they threw us out. They were rude and absolutely unprofessional, and did not care at all that they were ruining a special night and were rude from the beginning. Hospitability does not exist in this place.
