Tl;dr I would definitely go back with a group of people for drinks and small plates but wouldn't dine again due to patchy menu and mediocre main dishes. Everything we ate was either really good or pretty dull. Read on for more...
Right off the bat the ambiance is dope, service was quick to greet us, found our reservation and sat us. Soundtrack was awesome, more on that later. The menu is fixed, you choose from three tiers of entree/main/dessert combinations and can choose freely the dishes within.
Entrees were rockstar, bang bang shrimp were plump and juicy inside with a delightfully crispy wrap. Beef tartar was excellently flavoured, tonnes of umami with a little sweet kick. Perhaps a touch salty and not as tender as I'd hoped but still good. The real star was the ceviche, Cowfish, you did well. Great mix of perfectly cured sea creatures providing a spectrum of textures without overpowering acidity or an excess of liquid.
Main dishes were mixed. The quail was a generous portion with delightful balance of flavours, simultaneously rustic and modern. Of the four dishes we ate it was the only winner. Octopus was too soft, and not enough flavour. Also a frighteningly small portion compared to the three other main dishes we ordered, but still a decent dish. Half-cooked tuna was neither here nor there. Tuna burger was disappointing, greens were tasteless and wilted, bun was so-so and generally felt like it had sat on the shelf while the other dishes were prepared.
The monster shake is worth it for dessert. Not too heavy, really a blueberry smoothie as opposed to a true thick milkshake but still a hit! Decadent without feeling like it was way too much.
So about that music? "Right Now" by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris is a great song, but it and five other songs played on repeat for the first 90mins of our stay. After the 7th time hearing that song I asked our server to please change the tunes. Critical? Perhaps. However, the environment in which we eat is vital to the experience we enjoy, and poor curation of that environment reflects poorly on the establishment.
We had a bottle of white (Viognier) and a bottle of red (Pinot Noir) with entrees and principals respectively. Both were straight up awesome, well matched to our dishes and well priced.
In short, I will go back, either to Cowfish or sister Cowfish Corner. I like the feel and the idea, and the service we received was better than most. Next time I'll go for drinks and maybe a couple of dishes shared...
Read moreCowfish in Brussels offers a mixed experience, especially for young adults on a budget like us. We booked a table with friends, excited for a night out, but were surprised to discover upon seating that the minimum menu is €50 per person. This crucial detail was not communicated beforehand, and the menu didn't display the prices of the dishes. We found ourselves committed, having already ordered wine glasses, and, as good Gen Z folks, we were too hesitant to leave.
Despite the unexpected cost, the dining experience itself was exceptional. The food was absolutely incredible, with each dish showcasing the highest quality ingredients and meticulous preparation. The portions, however, were small for the price, which was a bit disappointing considering our budget constraints.
The service at Cowfish was nothing short of luxurious. The staff were attentive and professional, contributing to a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant’s ambiance is charming, making it a great spot for special occasions or when you’re looking to indulge.
Overall, Cowfish is an amazing restaurant with top-notch food and service, but be prepared for the higher prices. We had a great experience but will likely return when we have more money to fully enjoy...
Read moreVery nice restaurant. With good food, tasty and varied. You have the choice of 3 different type of menus (1 or 2 appetizers, main course, dessert or not), you are not able to take one dish only (obviously yes but you will pay for the full menu price). Prices are +/- €40-50 without drinks (expensive somehow). Service started well but was slow for us later (they forget the 2 tables in the front). We had to wait very very long time to get our coca cola (twice). Some would have been extremely annoyed with this. As no one where seeing us i had to go and ask for drinks .... It's a pity because I have to take a star because of this. Honestly having spoken nicely to the person in charge and her apologizing i was expecting any commercial gesture (the not taking care of us was really not good). We still recommend the place (food is really good) but bare in mind that you will pay at least €60/80 per person with coffee, wine and water at least. It's very international...
