La Trattoria Damme — Restaurant in Damme

A beautiful restaurant with beautiful owners. We were on a coach tour and stopped off, and seeing the need of thirsty travellers they opened up to serve us tea and coffee. Such a warm, relaxed welcome, not expecting hoardes of tourists that day, I have rarely been to a more relaxing place.

I do not deny this was a fantastic commercial opportunity but it was offered with such grace.

They did not have English Breakfast tea, but I enjoyed a pot of lemon tea the European way (no milk, of course, fresh tea leaves, from a tea pot, served in a glass). I wish we could have stayed for food but we were on a tight timescale.

Stumbled upon this charming spot during a casual bike ride out of town, and it was a stroke of luck. The pizza, which was massive, and the roast salmon were not only delicious but also served with fantastic hospitality. The staff, especially our Romanian waiter, made us feel right at home.
