Modest — Restaurant in Ghent

I regret to say that my visit to this restaurant was quite disappointing. While the menu and food looked appealing in the pictures and tasted reasonably good, I believe the prices were too high. I ordered the sweet pancakes, and it appeared that the only item prepared in-house were the pancakes. To my astonishment, I found a literal string of metal in my pancake, presumably from a metal cleaning ball. It's a positive sign that they maintain clean pans, but it's absolutely unacceptable to discover such an item in an expensive pancake. I promptly informed the waiter, who was friendly and surprised. They replaced the pancakes, but unfortunately, the second plate had a hair in it. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I would like to clarify that the staff was very friendly, despite the issues. I cannot recommend this place; there are better options for unique and reasonably priced pancakes elsewhere. Reaction; I want to clarify that the presence of hair in the dish is already bizarre and should not have occurred, and I find it very concerning that it's treated as something that can simply happen at your establishment. Moreover, finding a metal string is even more alarming and potentially dangerous, and I find the response "it can happen" inadequate for something I take...

Modest ended up being one of those happy surprises that make traveling fun. It actually wasn’t our first choice, we had planned to go somewhere else but stumbled upon this place and decided to walk in. Even though reservations are recommended, they were kind enough to seat us as walk-ins.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a relaxed but elevated vibe. The menu is small, but every dish feels intentional… high-quality, well-curated, and clearly made with care. The food itself was fabulous: hearty, fresh, and balanced in a way that felt both satisfying and healthy.
