Restaurant Athene — Restaurant in Ghent

we ordered our food rather than eating in. One of the best mezes my wife and I have ever had .. and we eat a fair bit of Greek. The marinated shrimp were soft and just hinted at a spicy warmth. There were kefta patties, lots of octopus rings cooked just right - that very rare level of tenderness with no sign of rubbery over cooking, and oddly .. kaaskroketen .. deep fried breaded cheese patties that my wife likes .. i was able to trade mine for an extra kefta pattie as my wife loves a good kaaskroket .. and these were good. AND .. large servings of freshly made tadziki and tarama .....

I thoroughly enjoyed eating here and I am a real big fan of Greek Cuisine. I tried the dish Giouvetsi which I had never had before and it really didn't disappoint. It had so much flavour the Orzo was cooked well and the lamb was just on another level so tender and flavourful, what a dish! This place is only quite small maybe only enough room to sit about 40-50 people I would guess but this gives it a nice feel and a good atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and attentive, definitely recommend this...

I've been coming to this restaurant for years, the meals are made to perfection, prices are really good but there are a couple of flaws I should address here.

The spacing between the tables is the same as before covid, they run at full capacity like it doesn't exist. The waiters always take off their mask when going towards the kitchen. It's pure show.

Apart from that the food is great and definitely something I'd recommend to everyone even if you're new to...
