I've eaten here for both hotel breakfast, evening meal and late drinks and found the service to be quite varied.

Breakfast is fine - there's plenty to choose from, including some Smeets drinks - not sure if they were available for breakfast, but they had vanished the next morning.

I found the bar service fairly attentive: there's a few barkeeps that recognise me and were quick to suggest a familiar beer and they've got a great range of Belgium beers on tap (Leffe, Le Chouffe and Karmeliet) but they're a bit pricey compared to nearby bars. Still, it's good for a quite late-night sup - especially if you have vouchers from the hotel for housekeeping skipping your room upon request.

For meals, I've found the menu somewhat limited and grow a bit samey after a while. There's complimentary bread and oils are offered prior to meal orders - would be nice to have some balsamic for a dip.

Similarly, I've find waiters/waitresses seem to be in a hurry to get back to the bar to notice anyone with empty glasses or wanting a bill - despite the restaurant area not being too busy, they're still pretty thin on the grounds (I suspect they're doubling as chefs as they don't seem to spend much time out in the dining area).

I opted for bolognaise the first night and found it quite large and filling, but I was hungry. I ordered the same dish later on in the week and found it a bit on the boring side, perhaps needing more herbs or body in the sauce. The burger wasn't bad, along with chips and salad, but could benefited from some sauce or relish to break up the plainness of the meal.

In general it's not a bad place, but I found the service a bit slow, having to flag waitresses down for more drinks, etc.

It's not enough to push me away from never going there, but some of the other nearby eating places have offered a far more engaging service that De Boulevard is more of a last resort than first choice.

However, for the last few times I stayed at the hotel (Nov2019 and Jan2020) I noticed a few changes on their menu so decided to give them another chance.

I wasn't feeling too great one night back in November so opted for chicken with mashed potato, also a pepper sauce. It doesn't look much on the plate but was exactly what I needed - some good simple protein and carbs to shrug off the illness, along with a sauce that kept everything moist.

On a return stay visit I noticed they had a few Asian dishes, so tried the sweet & sour the first night along with a nasi rice (rice fried interspersed with veg and ham) which was pretty delicious. I had to ask for some soya to help lift the rice, but I really enjoyed this meal.

The next night I opted for the fish curry, which consisted of large shrimps and other seafood floating in a rich thai coconut flavour, along with a curry-flavoured rice (they didn't bring nasi for this one) and when I asked for soya, they claimed they had none but brought some Hoi Sin instead. Odd.

The third night I went for chicken curry, but received only boiled rice this time, and this waitress managed to find some soya from the kitchen. Go figure. The curry was okay - more of a chinese-style meal - but could have benefited from a nasi rice to life it slightly.

The increased menu - along with specials on the board - has encouraged me to try eating in once in a while, but the waiting service still feels somewhat haphazard, as though staff are trying to multitask through different responsibilities and not quite remembering why they're in the...

Man: niet mijn probleem. Jason: het moest uwe zoon maar zijn. Dan zou je het ook erg vinden. Wat is uw oplossing dan? Man: da weet k nie. Jason: Is goed.

Wij gaan daar eens over nadenken.

Met geen vriendelijke...

Overall the food were great, what put me off was the steak tartar, maybe I am used to the French version in France, but although I can taste the beef was very fresh, the flavouring was not quite there, I had to ask for extra pickles to bring more flavours out but still wasn't quite there.
