De Orangerie — Restaurant in Hasselt

I am a frequent visitor in Hasselt. By all and large, I don’t have any problems with service in this city: neither hotels, no restaurants. But the waiter Patrick Leroi from Orangerir made me crazy twice. He was rude, unprofessional, unpolite and overconfident.

I asked to cook for me spaghetti and serve the souce separately. I had the problems with my stomach before, so that was the reason of my special order. I told him: no butter, no oil. Just spaghetti.

I was waiting only one minute (it’s how they cook food there😂), he brought me spaghetti with oil, shrimps, butter, and cheese on the top. Did i ask for it? No.

I asked to change the meal, because I didn’t order it like this. He refused! And he said that I didn’t tell him about it. I asked him to solve that problem, he said: no, I can not.

Well, i was still hungry and asked the kitchen guys to cook me just spaghetti without oil and other ingredients. Then he came with a plate of only spaghetti, but he didn’t cancel the first order, and i paid for all.

It was so humiliating, especially when people around didn’t understand the reason of his inappropriate behavior and my reaction. He made me guilty in the eyes of everyone who was sitting close to me by saying that I didn’t mention how to serve the spaghetti.

And when i visited this restaurant before, he made some fun that i asked him to tell me something about the soup that i wanted to order. He is not obliged to know how they cook it, but to describe in few words instead of making offensive fun was necessary for him.

I don’t want to recommend this place to anyone, because the quality of food is not so good. If they bring a dish immediately, it means they cooked it some time ago. Maybe, it’s not fresh. The food is fat and oversalted. They don’t pay you enough attention. They charge you without any shame. And they...

Place is spectacular. Food is okay. Service is horrible. When we asked the staff about something we are not sure about the menu especially about the “local dish” he answered in a very sarcastic way. When we asked to split the bill, he started slamming things on our table, groaning, and making bad facial expressions. It made us feel like he doesn't like having girls or Asian customers. I travel the world constantly for work and I never knew a place where this behavior is acceptable. If he didn't want us to ask questions or to split the bill he can right away say no instead of slamming things...

De avond begon leuk en het is een zeer gezellige locatie. Het eten zelf was ook goed! Maar op het einde heeft een ober zich niet correct gedragen en zeer arrogant gedaan tegen mij en mijn vriendin. De ober had ons slagroom aangerekend terwijl wij dit niet besteld hadden. Geen probleem een foutje kan gebeuren, maar toen begon hij te beweren dat wij aan het liegen waren maar ik weet goed genoeg dat ik zelf zonder slagroom zei. Dit vond ik erg arrogant. Daarna noemde hij mijn vriendin meermaals “mevrouwtje”, wat nogal een kleinerende term is naar mijn mening. Ik heb hem dan ook gevraagd om te stoppen haar zo aan te spreken en dat heeft hij dan ook gelukkig niet meer gedaan. Ook had ik een gin besteld (ik ging ervan uit dat er tonic bijzat), maar dat was niet zo. Dat is voor mij helemaal geen probleem. Maar als ik dit bestel, laat mij dat dan even weten dat er geen tonic bijzit dat ik zelf kan kiezen of ik die wil of niet, en niet op het einde er nog eens 4,5 euro bovenop aanrekenen.

Nadat we deze dingen melden tegen de ober begon hij ook nog eens te roepen op ons. Ik vind dit geen gepast gedrag voor een ober. Ik heb zelf 7 jaar in de horeca gewerkt, lang genoeg om te weten dat je je zo niet moet gedragen.

De ober was de man met de fel getatoeëerde arm.

Voor de rest is de locatie wel goed en het eten was ook oké. Over andere obers kunnen we niks zeggen maar ik hoop dat die wat klantvriendelijker zijn 😅 Jammer dat we een leuke avond zo...
