Bar Pilar — Restaurant in Ixelles - Elsene

I have been to pilar several times and planning to go many more. It is a very nice bar for both a morning coffee and and a beer in the evening. The staff is always friendly and can give good recommendations if you don’t know what to have. The prices are not university like, with a hot chocolate being 4,50€ and a mint tea being 4,80€ and the food is also a little expensive, but I personally believe it is a nice bar and it is worth it to pay the premium. Only thing I think is lacking is a bigger and better selection of rum and vodka, but it is also understandable because most people have beer there. Their beer selection is good and big! Over priced food (small portions and low quality). The babaganoush spread was super hard to the point that the tortilla chips (from a shop-bought bag) broke every time we tried to take some spread with them. The availability of the products on the menu is also limited. They only had two types of bao buns, which, by the way, are tiny for their price and with a very poor filling. The staff don't seem knowledgeable of the products they have to offer. The only positive aspect about this bar is its indoor space which is quite chill and the fact that they have speciality coffee. However, non-knowledgeable staff make the coffee experience rather underwhelming... It's really just a bar to go for...

The place is good only for drinks. We ordered a veggie bao-buns since they didn’t have any other food, that was quite a miserable lunch experience. It was brought in a little package after being clearly microwaved, it looks like a piece of bread that was over-microwaved. Very dry and had very little filling, so without any sauce it was unbearable to eat. In this regard, one of the sauces was also expired. In general, wouldn’t order food here at all. The beer suggestions are good, although overpriced for a bar on campus, and the atmosphere is nice with a lot of plants and an area to sit outside.
