L’Escale Au Vietnam — Restaurant in Ixelles - Elsene

The food was OK and the service was too while I was the only customer in the place. Once there were 3 tables, for a total of 6 customers, the service fell apart completely. The sole server completely ignored me and at least 3 times looked directly at me or my empty dishes and did not take them away, did not ask me if I wanted anything else or if I wanted the bill. Technically I think my dinner choice was supposed to include coffee or tea but that was never offered. I finally had to go to the back of the restaurant myself to get my bill. I found the server sweeping up the kitchen and she seemed completely oblivious to there being any issue at all.

Also, I think something else is off. I ordered a sparking mineral water. It arrived already opened. I noticed however that the label on the bottle was a bit marked and damaged, as if it were an old bottle. (I had plenty of time to study it while I waited for the server to acknowledge my existence.) I did wonder if they re-used the bottle but merely filled it with seltzer water. Maybe that is why some places make a point of opening the bottle at your table. It's something I will look out for in future.

Given all this, I would not recommend this restaurant. The food isn't good enough to put up with the bizarre service, and there are many other options...

Tried the course for 18 Euro. Got chicken soup with ravioli. And it was delicious! With a bit of lettuce/cabbage and spring onion. The soup was a small portion but got 4 quite big raviolis. My partner ordered the mince chicken soup, tried it and was also delicious but a bit spicy. Red chicken curry that was the main was super tasty, the lemongrass beef was also very tasty! All the flavours perfectly matched with each other. Looking forward for tomorrow, my last day in Brussel and I know where I am going to eat again. The waiter couldn't speak English but the menu was fully in English, didn't bother us, lovely lady. Absolutely...

That was one of the best Vietnamise food I've ever tried. The restaurant doesn't look very fancy and the entrance inside is a bit hidden. When I came here in the lunch time, there was no customers so I was a little suspicious about the quality. But it was fantastic! I ordered a bowl of vermicelli noodles, some veggies and chicken.
