I've known Martha and enjoyed her cookies for around two years now. The shop itself is just as old, and I am so happy and proud of everything she has achieved in such a short period of time. You could therefore say I am biased and that is precisely why I will endeavour to keep this as objective as possible. Are Martha's the best cookies in town? I can't answer that as it will entirely depend on your taste and preferences, and how you like your cookies. What I can tell you, however, is that behind every cookie there's a mammoth amount of work, research and innovation. And it shows. She regularly brings out new seasonal flavours, is enthusiastic about her product and is always looking for inspiration. As a fellow baker, I particularly appreciate the care she puts in the entire process, from ensuring the butter and the sugar are properly creamed, to sourcing local ingredients and establishing partnerships with local businesses. And if we are naming names, my favourite is Cramicoeur - the chocolate chip cookie with a chocolate hazelnut spread melting heart, although Tatajaja (the black cardamom cookie) is a serious contender, too. To sum it all up, I think you should give Martha's cookies a try. And if you don't like them, that is absolutely fine, no hard feelings. Maybe - just maybe - don't leave the place a scathing review just because they don't meet your expectations. In any case, I really hope you like them. And if you go see Martha, do...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place, but the product was not what I thought it was. Martha is absolutely lovely and you can tell she puts a lot of effort into making this product. We got a few cookies and none of them was really great. The one I liked the most was the chocolate chip and almond cookie, however, the almonds were cut too small and they were lost in the dough and lacked the texture of a toasted nut. The speculoos one was a bit bland. The pumpkin ricotta one was advertised as having a ricotta center with a lot of spices, but we got very little filling and couldn't really taste the spices. The apple cinnamon one was very wet from the apples leaching juices as they sat on the counter. The chocolate orange one left you with a numb tongue. This usually occurs when the citrus get treated with wax. It's not really harmful, but it's...
