Brasserie 't Oud Gasthuys - The Old Clinic — Restaurant in Leuven

Went here for a dinner date with my boyfriend. The restaurant is kind of hidden away in an alley right in the city center. The location is 10/10, the atmosphere is super warm and welcoming. Very cute and definitely adds to the experience. The staff was also incredible, even the new staff was very professional!

When it comes to the food, we were a bit disappointed. The food was not bad, but the food doesn’t meet the standards of the atmosphere and location. It is way too expensive for the quality.

I had the steak and my boyfriend had pork. It wasn’t bad, but everything around the meat was bland and didn’t add anything to the dish. We just got some lettuce on the side. My boyfriend picked bread to go with his pork, but this was the type of bread you would get as a starter, it wasn’t meant to go with the meat. I had fries, they were not bad but definitely did not meet the standards of the steak itself.

Hidden in an alley with a nice interior design and a welcoming atmosphere. The place is great for events too. As a group we decided to try it out and we went for their 3 course menu. We chose variety of appetizers and main courses from vegetarian to meat options. The food came with right presentation and right temperature. Appetizers such as fried cheese and shrimps and cheese plates were fine in general but nothing extraordinary. The main courses were alright but for instance the salmon lacked seasoning and came a bit cool not hot enough. The portions of the dishes were fine ofcourse but overall lack of seasoning was felt to some degree by all of us. As for the service we were ofcourse few people and as a busy restaurant we understood that we need to wait a bit but it took relatively long to order extra or even the drinks, perhaps more staffs are needed on busy nights. We celebrated our wedding in this cozy place and can definitely recommend it for a meal or bigger and smaller events. The owners are very professional and warm at the same time, very flexible and good at solving problems that happened the last minute due to our shift in the time schedule.
