De Werf is gives off special feeling because of their special decoration. It's very cozy and they have this special way to serve their dishes. For examples your sandwich will be served in sandwich box instead of on the plate. Of course, some dishes are served normally.
This restaurant is very popular due to good quality of food and the prices! When I went there with my friends, I didn't had an appetite so I just ordered chocolate cake. It was served on normal plate and the chocolate cake just stole my heart! It's just so good. The taste melted inside my mouth and I finished it so fast that I needed to get another one. The waiters were very friendly and the service were great (it was fast).
The location is great because it's near to the Old Market and front of this restaurant has small square where you will see a lot of students sitting around during lunch time depending on season. I haven't visited there during the night but they have this light decoration which gives off good atmospheres (it can become very romantic as well).
If I am going to visit Leuven again, I would differently try one of their non-deserts dishes!
(Based on what I wrote on...
Read moreWhat an original place! Apparently it is run students or at least they work in the restaurant... They are kind and professional (even if they are in exams period :) ). It is a restaurant close to the center of Leuven. They offer a lot op options (pasta, wraps, delicious a big salads...) and lots of drinks: belgian beers, hot chocolate, homemade tea cold and warm, a delicious gin tonic and even a "do it yourself" orange juice, yes you have read it properly and it is really funny because if you order that juice they bring you the oranges, and a squeezer and voilà. They also offer dessert and they are usually okay. I like to order the wrap when I am not so hungry and trust me, it is really tasty!! My dad came to visit me and he fell in love with the veggie pasta cause he is vegeterian, so it is also a good restaurant for veggies.
The plAce is quite big and you can not make a reservation (surprisingly in Belgium) but I have always found a spot. It is perfect to go with friends, specially in summer when they have a super nice and big terrace full of light, life and nice and cheap food :)
The price? Not belgian average at all. For the wrap you pay 5-6 €, the pasta costs 7-10.... so, what are you waiting for??? :)
Read moreOnly cash, pretty average staff, but stupid food. Sometimes they put on 'special seasonal menu' and one of them was cut mozzarella and tomatoes in a bowl.... or cut strawberries with whipped cream... seriously they just cut the ingredient(even without sauce) and call it a food. The same goes to salads. I can't pay 11 euros for tuna salad which I can make at home in 10 minutes(or even worse than that). It seemed as if they didn't even wash the salad since I could actually chew the grains of earth. Less than mediocre. I understand those who go here to chill on the sunny terrace but I hardly get local people or students who give rave reviews about their food saying "Super lekker!". I wonder what they eat at home. I gave at least two stars for their nice location...
