Worst cafe experience I have ever had. I do not usually write reviews on here, however, this time I was left feeling so angry and disrespected. My boyfriend reccomend this cafe to me as he comes here quite often. We were in there for 2 hours and I had ordered a little cake and one of their more expensive drinks. We occupied a very small table and the cafe was only half full. My boyfriend (who is lactose intolerant) was not feeling well and couldn't order a cake as they did not have many vegan options. Then a rude barrister came up to me saying that I am an impolite customer for only ordering a cake and a drink. I was confused as I still had a half a drink on my table. I was still drinking from it as I had only ordered it 10 - 15 minutes ago. Then she said to me that it was my boyfriends drink and that I had not ordered anything (which is not true and I don't know why she thought this). She said I needed to order something else, I did not do this because why would I when I still have half a drink left. Then she came back and called me impolite again, all this time she was only talking and being rude to me, which I found strange. I can understand that ordering one drink and a cake for 2 people is not very much, but there was still no need to be this rude and even if I was alone, I would have still only occupied one small table in a cafe where there were many free tables. If this was to try and encourage us to buy more from this cafe, it did not work, as neither of us will be returning. Also, because she caused such a fuss we were there for longer than originally planned. I'm not sure if she was just having a bad day or is normally like this but either way this interaction we had with her has put both of us off ever coming here again, which is a shame since the food and drink that I did have was quite nice. So, if you want to go to a nice cafe with reasonable prices, good atmosphere and very friendly staff in Leuven, I would recommend going to...
Read moreMadmum is my favourite place in Leuven for specialty coffee, and this particular branch is my absolute favourite among all of Madmum's locations spread over the city ring. At this point in time, I could say that Madmum has become a part of the daily routine of my girlfriend and mine - a productive workday either starts or ends with Madmum, same could apply to a good lunch break. In summertime, the cherry on top of the cake would be chilling in their outdoor part by the river.
I can definitely recommend their Cappuccino, Cafe Latte and Chai Latte (one of these three I take on almost a daily basis). From cookies, I like going with Choco Chip, but it gets sold out quite fast, so might not always be available after lunch time. Also, the Choco Caramel and Carrot Cake are very nice. The breakfast and lunch menus are interesting as well. From the lunch menu, I would mostly go with Avocado Toast. They also have seasonal special offers, say for this winter Coco Matcha Latte was nice.
To make orders and payments, one has to simply use the QR codes provided on each table, which eliminates the overhead of splitting the bills over multiple people at the table (yes, this is worth mentioning, since it's not very common in Leuven to accept separate payments).
Depending on the personnel working on a particular day, the music can be very well-picked and the personnel is mostly very nice. Overall, really love this place and always happy to see them grow. Keep up the good...
Read moreVisiting on an average Friday morning, I was surprised how busy this place was. The Vaartkom is slowly crawling out of the dust, converting the former industrial setting into a hip place to be. Madmun is one of the markers in this process. You order and pay at your table with a QR code and a little later your delicious coffee is delivered to you. The interior is busily noisy, with tables and chairs that unfortunately already show their intense usage. The bare industrial skeleton of the inside contrasts nicely with broad sunny windows to enjoy watching the trendy passage on...
