Cafe Leopold — Restaurant in Ostend

Not to be mistaken with the modern trendy cafe Leopold in Etterbeek Brussels, this place is a time capsule made for the nostalgic Belgian royalists. The place is adorned from top to bottom with royalist memorabilia from medals, press clippings, post stamp editions to tin cans and entire royal busts. The menu contains a who's who guide of the Belgian royal family for those who need a quick refresher (minus the less flattering and darker parts ofcourse). Music inside is usually Flemish and the friendly locals don't hesitate to sing along with what's being played. Despite the kitchiness of it all, even for those with less than royalist inclinations, it's worth stopping by and enjoying a beer,a coffee or hot chocolate milk depending on the weather, while soaking up the friendly out of this time and place atmosphere. The place is clearly filled with well established locals as the main waiter seems to know most by name and preferred drink in advance of their order. Direkt auf der Strandpromenade liegt das Cafe Leopold mit bestem blick auf Strand und Meer. Sehr urig eingerichtet lockt es mit vielen belgischen Bieren und einer kleinen feinen Speisekarte. Das Cafe hat den Charm vergangener Zeiten in denen Ostende noch eine blühende Hafenstadt war in der der Tourismus blühte.

Die Kellner sind nicht immer gleich zur Stelle, aber sehr freundlich und wenn man einmal ins Gespräch gekommen ist, bekommt man auch immer ein paar tolle Tipps zum erkunden oder ausprobieren.
