Poppy's pizza&pasta — Restaurant in Ostend

The food tasted fine. So if you don't care about shade or service this place is great!

When we arrived we asked to sit inside since there were no tables in the shade outside and the sun was really hot. Owner told us that the inside dining area is closed and we have to sit outside. We accept and sit down at a table in the sun hoping it wouldn't take too long since we justed wanted to order two basic Pizza. (Guess that's on us) After we sat down at a very wobbly table and ordered our drinks and food. Further guests arrived and the owner seats them inside, where it's nice and cool. I wanted to ask the owner why we couldn't sit inside but he never came back around to wait the tables. By the time the food finally came (roughly 40 minutes after ordering simple Pizza...) we had given up to try and be seated inside and also seriously considered to just pay for our drinks and go somewhere else after the first 30 minutes of waiting. We weren't even asked if we would like to have some more to drink even with our glasses pretty much empty after sitting in the blazing sun for a total of 50 minutes. So we ate quickly, paid and left to search for shade and get a dessert elsewhere.

Might have just been a bad day here, but we won't be...

Restaurant looks nice and cosy but don't expect any Italian dishes. It's all weird combinations of random things thrown on a pizza or pasta plate. Although this might be something you like of course, you can get pretty much anything you could think of. Lots of vegetarian options as well even 'vegetarian meat' options (which I personally don't like at all, but that's personal taste). I saw some interesting desert options on the menu as well, but didn't try time as they were not to my personal taste (e.g. Tiramisu with orea cookies). They do have high chairs for kids and a changing table but this is very ackwardly located outside of the restroom area so next to tables where people might be eating. Also, they don't offer tap water which I think is not very service-oriented, sustainable or practical with kids (we had to use our own water as the bottled water was too cold...

We went here with my boyfriend on the 1st of may, 2025, however we were refused by a server or the owner, not really sure who. We didn't even had time to sit down he ushered us out, telling us it was closed. Nowhere was it near closing time, other people were still getting served, we were there at 18:40, on their website no notice about closing early, and even if it was because of the bank holiday, if it were to be closed, there could've been a visible sign that it was closing at a specific hour. We do not know if it was because we're french speakers, but we felt a bit off about the whole thing, especially since it was not disclosed anywhere that the restaurant was closing at a specific hour (other than their regular schedule) and there were other clients still waiting to get their orders taken. A shame, because honestly the food looked nice. We won't be...
