Brasserie Belge — Restaurant in Saint-Gilles - Sint-Gillis

We arrived at the restaurant around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, and although there were plenty of empty tables inside, the outdoor area was quite busy. Initially, we felt ignored by the staff, but eventually, one person showed us to a table and handed us the menu. Unfortunately, it took a frustrating 15 minutes for a server to come and take our order, despite our attempts to flag them down. Eventually, I had to walk to the bar area to find a server and place our order. We had initially chosen Lasagna and Carbonara, but the kitchen unexpectedly ran out of Lasagne. It was puzzling that the front staff hadn’t been informed earlier. Instead, we settled for Bolognese, which took another 15 minutes to arrive at our table. Despite our hunger and low expectations due to the service delays, the food turned out to be surprisingly good, with generous portion sizes. Our server was apologetic, but overall, the restaurant’s management needs to address staffing issues and improve communication between the kitchen and front of the house. Usually not one to post a review, but our experience here was quite poor.

The poor server was run off his feet with it being very busy and management/owners not being supportive or helping. Our food ended up taking an hour and a half while everyone around us took less then 20. Can understand not his fault but management and the way they staff and seemingly treat their staff seems to be poor. Watched, who i can only assume is the owner, get requests from customers, and then palm it off to the server who was already super busy. Small and cozy. In the winter, that is. I arrived in the evening before my train to London and after reading the reviews, I had mixed feelings. Especially about the service. I was greeted on arrival and given the last window seat! It was half full, mostly travelers going on from Midi. It was so warm and welcoming inside. I ordered immediately and my mussels came in 10 minutes. I had a lovely carafe of wine and it was so enjoyable. I was alone, but there were many single travelers so I felt so at ease.
