Restaurant Romy — Restaurant in Tervuren

At best tired and unimaginative. Had the markt menu. Amuse bouche was tinned tuna in a papadew pepper from a jar. Starter was a 'new wave" of tomato and mozzarella. As a chef of 20yrs experience and some considerable time in Michelin starred restaurants and others I was very curious as to what new wave could mean...it means quarters of green red and yellow tomatoes unskinned still with the stem root cut into segments with a reasonable mozzarella. Explain new wave please? Main of turbot with an indistinguishable puree and tomato sauce with more roasted cherry tomatoes. Tomato overload. Dessert of a rough quinelle of chocolate mousse with creme anglais did what the menu said it did. Decaf coffee appallingly bad, is it from a Nescafé jar? Mignardise were fine and wine and service both good. Having both chefs hanging around the bar waiting on the customers to leave is a bit off. I understand from friends that there has been a recent bereavement in the restaurant and I do hope the owners find a chef that appears to like food like thier previous chef who was traditional yet imaginative. In the first 15 minutes, I seemed to like the place: the cozy interior, styled new art decor, spacious. But then, we started with a dried cold breads which were hard to bite, served with tasteless butter. The waiter was helpful to explain the menu only in Dutch and French. However, he looked rather tired because he was the only one running around like crazy to serve 5/6 tables. The absolute disaster of the once awarded Michelin star was the three main dishes of deer, pigeon and cod fish. The 2 first were overcooked, tasteless and so hard to chew. My wife couldn’t finish it. The later was unappealing bland. The deserts were ice cream with sweetened dried fruits, simply with much sugar. I don’t understand why people overrated that restaurant? If this restaurant is one of the best in town, it will downgrade Tervuren as an unpopular...

Very pleasant, calm atmosphere. No blasting music! Warm welcome and good service. Small selection of dishes (always a good sign = fresh!) and a good menu formula. Waiting time was pretty long between dishes but, if everything is made fresh on the spot this...
