It was a busy weekend when we visited Ypres. The entire town was a buzz of rally cars and visitors. During summer the restaurants were all open with lots of alfresco options. Despite this the town very busy and a good spot to eat right in town was what we wanted.

We were lucky find a table at Vivaldi. We had not booked and were lucky to sit outside close to the atmosphere of the Market Place and the magnificent Lakken Halle.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals at Vivaldi.

We had the Flanders Stew, Salmon and Spaghetti Bolognaise. The Local beer called Hommel showed the talents of the Belgians in making fabulous beer. All were tasty and we decided to share our meals. The traditional Flanders Stew won out. We washed our meal down with a bottle of very nice and affordable Sauvignon Blanc from Bordeaux.

The staff were very good keen to make our experience memorable.

Well worth a visit capped off by the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, a daily event that is not...

A real shame this one. Great location and ambiance, and the food was good if somewhat overpriced. However, all that was ruined when the waiter rudely informed us they don't have any tap water so we would have to buy a €8 bottle of water, which was not going to happen, so he stormed off and did not return, but sent colleagues over with the food. Consequently a member of our party could not take their daily medication with the food as required which could be dangerous. We would definitely suggest you avoid this restaurant until they change their immoral water policy. Never been refused water anywhere in the world before, so this is a blatant, cynical tourist rip-off. It is a disgrace to the lovely people and beautiful city of Ypres, and spoiled our otherwise poignant and perfect day in the...

Great ambience with its central location in Ieper’s town square. The Flemish Stew and frites paired with a St. Bernardus abt 12 was excellent and made a great local dish. Sit outside, relax and unwind after a long day at this great establishment. Once finished, it’s a close walk to the Last Post at Menin Gate.
