October 2022 - 8 of us popped in on Tuesday lunchtime for a bite to eat & drink before heading back towards the ferry. We sat outside in bright autumnal sunshine, initially, we were going to have to sit at two tables of four, but the waiter spoke to his good friend and soon we were all seated together.
We ordered our drinks first, all but two arrived initially and after a quick reminder the missing two also arrived. We then ordered a variety of dishes, predominantly the pizza baguette with mozzarella cheese, with a side portion of fries. I had the pizza baguette with ham whilst another of our group had the scampi - which looked and apparently tasted equally as good. Not like scampi back home, breaded or fried, but 5 really good sized prawns on each skewer.
Our meals were very good.
The service was excellent. The waiter was incredibly polite, very friendly & helpful. Unfortunately no photos this time, but very happy indeed. Such a pleasure to sit outside and relax for an hour, with good service, before heading back home. We'll certainly visit here again when we visit next year. 👍
We returned again this year, September 2024, initially for drinks and then decided to stay for a pizza each. The pizzas were very good, I had the bolognese pizza but asked for some chilli sauce, which was nicely presented over the bolognese, which was great. I really enjoyed mine and I think my friends enjoyed theirs too. A good crispy base and a healthy sized selection of toppings.
We accompanied our pizzas, initially with a local beer, Leopold, I think it was called but then changed (because we could) to Ypra, another local beer.
So a good meal, refreshing local beers and great late summer sunshine which was an absolute treat as the restaurant sits on the right side of yeh square for the midday and afternoon sun 🌞. Perfect and very relaxing.
The service was good too.
So because we've had two good visits, both reasonably priced I'm happy to give Resto Milano 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

Read moreSummary: Lower expectations and it will be ok enough. Went for dinner, service is rather hopeless: we were given a table with a smile (so far so good), no cutlery or glasses were given to us, we tried to order a bottle of wine which was not available so we were offered something similar which was actually nice and same price(ish) however the waiter showed up without glasses, he went to get a couple and took ages to come back with them. The wine itself was good and a nice recommendation would have ideally have been served chilled since it was a white wine but we'll live. The menu/food: options were varied. The waitress taking our order didn't seem to know the menu at all - had to point at the items so she could write them one by one. We ordered carpaccio & burrata for starters and escalope alla romana and scampi all'aglio for mains. The Carpaccio arrives -and there's no sign of the burrata. we reminded them and it eventually showed up. The mains.... the escalope is serviced with pasta - save yourself the calories and ask for fries. The pasta-side was SO overcooked it just isn't worth doing. I honestly hope that anyone ordering pasta as a main course would be given proper pasta not soggy overcooked pasta. The sauce with the pasta was nice but seriously, would not expect an 'italian' restaurant to serve soggy pasta. The escalope is described as: Kalfslapje met parmaham en verse salie in een wittewijnsaus. It was smothered in mushrooms/mushroom sauce: where that came from, is anyone's guess. The taste was good but completely off menu. The scampi were nicely cooked and came with a good oil based sauce however do not call rice 'risotto' just because it's a supposedly Italian restaurant!! just pls dont :( So basically: it's fine and decent overall but we do not understand the amazing...
Read moreHad dinner there twice and booked Saturday night Ypres rally celebration (outside table for two at 20.30) arrived on time, spoke to boss man and head guy, who made lots of gesturing, but at the time there were at least 5 tables for two who had eaten, drank their drinks but not had their bill and therefore owned the table whilst watching tbe ceremony 40 mins later they were still taking the piss, I approached 3 of the management, explained our booking but it was met with a shrug of the shoulders! We weren't even offered a table inside, but the 5 now 6 tables of locals recognised my anguish, stood firm and the game was theirs, after a confrontation with an arrogant local, I explained my displeasure at their attitude and eventually told them to enjoy their evening and we went to a marvelous Italian near the minim gate where our custom was appreciated, great food, but have to say that the 3 staff maybe one was the owner complete and utter tossers ! Won't ever go back, they'd rather have 5/6 tables of local guests drinking/ eating nothing, ratger than serving waiting customers
Recognise its a busy night, but customers could have moved 2meters outside on the roadside to watch same ceremonies- arrogant customers, but staff control of ou situation was very poor ! Won't be back next year !
Ypres is a beautiful place, restaurant prices on a par with UK generally and the two nights that as a 4 person then a 2 person were great, service great, but management of tables and final bills was very poor ! Shame, because food and banter with the waiters was brilliant and fun on our...
