If you ever find yourself wandering along Front Street on Caye Caulker, do yourself a favor and swing by The Lazy Lizard Bar & Grill. This place is like that friend who always knows how to have a good time—fun, inviting, and just a little bit cheeky!
The Split was originally a hand dug channel that was widened by Hurricane Hattie in 1961. It has been a central gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. As soon as you step onto the sandy floor, you’re greeted by the vibrant beachside ambiance that screams “vacation mode.” Picture this: palm trees swaying, the sound of waves crashing, and an enticing menu that’s sure to make your taste buds dance like nobody’s watching.
Now, let’s talk food. The menu is packed with delicious, above-average bar bites that will leave you questioning if you’ve stumbled into a four-star restaurant instead of a laid-back beach bar. From Lizard Onion Ring Burger to Filet Mignon, there’s something for everyone. But let’s be real—the star of the show is the World Famous Lazy Lizard Juice. It’s like a tropical hug in a glass! One sip, and you’ll be convinced it was crafted by mermaids.
Service here is terrific, too! The staff are friendly and attentive, making sure your glass is always full and your belly is always happy.
In short, The Lazy Lizard isn’t just a bar; it’s an experience. So grab your friends, kick back, and let the good times roll at this beachside gem. Just don’t forget to order that juice—you’ll...
Read moreUnfortunately, my experience at The Lazy Lizard was far from enjoyable. The highlight (or lowlight, perhaps) of the evening was their grilled whole fish, which left a lot to be desired.
Upon its arrival at my table, the fish gave off an unappealing odor, hinting at its lack of freshness. It was a visual disappointment too, showing signs that it might have passed its best before date.
The experience didn't improve upon tasting. The meat had an odd texture, akin to powder which is quite a departure from the juicy succulence one would expect from a well-grilled fish. Each bite became increasingly difficult to swallow and the enjoyment I had anticipated was rapidly extinguished.
To add insult to injury, the fish seemed to be an attractor for a swarm of flies. They descended upon the table almost as soon as the dish was served, creating a scene that was not only unsanitary but also highly distressing.
In conclusion, my experience at The Lazy Lizard was unfortunately an unfavorable one. This was particularly surprising and disappointing given its generally positive reviews. I sincerely hope that my experience was a one-off and not representative of their usual standards. Until I have reason to believe otherwise, I'm afraid I cannot recommend the grilled whole fish at...
Read moreIt feels like Lazy Lizard is a pretty "entitled" place just based on it's close proximity to the Split. As a Westerner, I don't mind paying higher prices for food and drinks; however, I do expect a better service, higher quality food&drinks and especially a CLEAN environment in return. The biggest disappointment is how DIRTY the place is: empty bottles, dirty plates and wrappers are left sitting there on tables, chairs and the swimming area, with Servers and Staff completely ignoring it. Don't be surprised if you come back there the next morning and see all this garbage sitting on the open from the night before with lots of it floating in the water. I guess Lazy Lizards stands for the Lazy Staff and Management, who are willing to sell you overpriced food& drinks while completely failing to clean up the mess that their business leaves behind every single day. Long story short, if you are a person or a family that doesn't care about the environment and wants to be charged extra $$$ to have more plastic garbage in the Carribean Sea, while empowering irresponsible behavior from locals, then Lazy Lizard is the right place for you - otherwise spend your hard-earned money...
