Zombala Restaurant in Thimphu's Hong Kong Market promises a taste of best cuisine, but unfortunately, my recent experience left much to be desired. Let's start with the ambiance and service. The restaurant itself has a bustling atmosphere, akin to attending a crowded festival. The staff, however, were a significant disappointment. Throughout my meal, I observed them rudely shuffling customers from table to table without explanation. One incident stood out when a young boy was moved three times before leaving altogether in frustration. Even I was asked to change tables mid-meal by a waitress who promptly took a chair from my table when I declined. This lack of professionalism and consideration for diners' comfort was disheartening. Moving on to the food, I ordered the Noodles Thukpa, a popular dish that should highlight the restaurant's culinary skills. Sadly, what arrived was far from appetizing. The noodles appeared hastily cooked and were simply added to hot water with a dash of soy sauce, lacking the depth of flavor and texture one expects from a traditional Thukpa. The soup itself was poorly presented in worn, chipped bowls, which further detracted from the dining experience. The portions were oversized, causing the food and soup to spill over, making the entire meal a messy affair. In conclusion, Zombala Restaurant might appeal to those with an abundance of patience or a penchant for chaotic environments akin to attending Kumbh Mela. However, for those seeking a pleasant dining experience with attentive service and well-prepared food, I would recommend looking elsewhere in Thimphu's vibrant...
Read moreJust go here…you won’t regret it! Great tasting local food, simple but packed with flavor. For sure we were the only foreigners there but it was worth it. We went for the fried rice and momo’s and spent $5 USD!!! We had a beer too! Just tasty! The only quirky thing is that you wrote your own order…we obviously didn’t know this so when the waitress left the notepad and pen on the table we just thought she was leaving it there to make that she gave us menus. As ignorant foreigners…we waved her down to place our order. She took it with no complaint but we noticed everyone else was just writing their orders themselves. Too funny. Anyway, go and enjoy. Everyone had at least 2 plates of steamed momo’s and it looked like the procedure was to drench the momo’s in the chili (also yummy). We got the beef fried ones (yummy) but I suspect the pork is also good (fried or steamed). The pork fried rice was amazing too and huge portion big enough to share with 2-3 ppl depending on your...

The momos were simply out of this world – perfectly steamed, with a generous filling that melted in your mouth. Their fried rice and noodles were equally incredible, packed with fresh ingredients and just the right blend of spices. Every dish was prepared with care, and you could taste the authenticity in every bite.
The service was excellent too! The staff was friendly, attentive, and eager to make our dining experience memorable. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and flavor of the food.
