I chanced this joint with my wife one Saturday night, as we wanted to try something new. We are fans of Lebanese food but weren’t sure how good it would be.
Walking in was intimidating as the establishment was barren. After several flights of stairs, there was no reception at the door be it music, signposts or a server. The first thing you see is expensive booze locked in glass doors and a security guard watching you as you study the joint. After braving the guards scrutiny, we were dismayed to find no one there. For a prime location in CBD on a weekend, it is worrisome.
Finally the waitress came to receive us but she did an awful job of vouching for the establishment giving us the impression all the food was bad. In her words, “It’s just for the Lebanese. They eat this.” For the tantalising price of P60, I said so be it. We’ll be Lebanese too!
Bowls of moutabel, balila and falafels shortly decorated our table. As we dug in, we were overwhelmed by the sheer flavour and freshness of the food. It took me back to my uni days eating with Syrians, Persians and Palestinians. I was blown away by the experience and offended at the same time. How dare the server not appreciate such fine food! I told her off and she refused to acknowledge her wrongdoing.
I recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Broaden your horizons! Although we are not vegetarians, it was the best vegetarian meal I’ve had in this country, topping the Indian cuisine. Come one, come all. It’s good and wholesome...

Just go up the stairs near where maps says it is to find the unmarked entrance. Service was a bit slow on our visit, and we noticed a table that arrived after us got served around 20 minutes before us. Beers were cold, but a strawberry daiquiri came out tasting off, perhaps freezer burned? Mentioned it to the waiter who didn’t seem interested, and we later had it taken away due to the unpleasant taste. No replacement or refund was offered. Hummus was flavorless though the seasoned beef it came with saved it. Fried potatoes were the star of the show, very flavorful and nicely cooked. Meat dishes were average, leaving us wishing we had enjoyed local dishes at nearby venues instead. Three colleagues came down with food poisoning between 12-36 hours after dining, and while we can’t be sure our menu here was the cause, the sense of non-freshness certainly sewed suspicions. I don’t think any of us would return, which is a shame since it’s such a well...
Read moreOnce in a while you get blown away entering an eatery without much expectations or demands because you travel alone on business and all u wanted is food to fill you before going back to the hotel. So when I saw Lebanese food on the menu of the Sip and Grill I got excited. When I took a bite from the hummus with meat (I chose chicken) dish I ordered I stopped eating and started savoring it . Bite by bite...this food deserves to be slowly eaten to appreciate the beautiful flavors of the garlic paste, hummus laced with olive oil and unknown spices- it was amazing. And add to this a great and attentive service. Any future business in Gabarone and I will be back on day 1...keep...
