Munganga Bistrô — Restaurant in Região Geográfica Imediata do Recife

MUNGANGA BISTRO (Porto de Galinhas) This restaurant sits right on the beach in front of the lighthouse of the beach town of Porto de Galinhas, which is a major tourist destination in the northeast of Brazil. The restaurant is separated into 3 separate seating areas around an open-air courtyard, so you have your choice of different ambiences. The menu seems to have an Italian flair, but seafood is the main attraction. I was really expecting more from both the flavor and the plating, which was rather pedestrian. Service was good. We started with a seafood gratin, which was pretty good. The main courses were less good…I had fish Fiorentina, which was an overcooked, underseasoned piece of fish covewith mashed potatoes and spinach (neither of which were seasoned at all). The fact that the fish was tiny didn’t bother me because it was so tough, but they covered it with so much puree that I was expecting something larger. I’m usually a fan of puree, but not this one. It was still better than the fish. My wife had the Fish & Shrimp à moda do Farol. The shrimp were nicely done, but the fish was a salty as could be and was over-cooked as well. Chegamos próximo as 13:20 no restaurante e de cara fomos informados pelo responsável pela torre que o restaurante estaria lotado. Perguntei em seguida se era um evento privado e me foi informado que não. Nós pelo horário, achamos que seria um tempo de espera pequeno e insistimos em aguardar e perguntamos pelo tempo médio de espera e informaram de 1h a 40min. Achei fora da realidade mas disse que esperaria. E “por caridade” nos deixaram aguardar numa sombra(o funcionário da torre disse que iria abrir essa exceção). Procurei o maître para informar que estávamos esperando e o mesmo segui-o a mesma resposta do primeiro funcionário, dizendo que estava lotado. Perguntei se não estavam recebendo mais mesas e simplesmente não me respondeu e mudou de assunto. Minha esposa entrou no salão para ver se havia alguma mesa e perguntou a um outro garçom sobre uma mesa vazia e se poderia sentar nela... de pronto ele disse que sim e entrou em contradição com o maître. Ele me disse que a mesa seria para 6 pessoas e que não poderia colocar 2, não entendi, pq não haviam mais pessoas esperando mesa e estávamos ali. Argumentos de ambos os lados e como a falta de interesse em nos receber estava grande decidimos ir embora. Somos clientes antigos da casa e achamos que deveríamos dar esse feedback. Oq transpareceu, é que todos(com exceção do garçom que disse que poderíamos sentar) estavam combinados de proceder assim.

We ordered the Munganga plate and the local dessert with banana, cheese and cinnamon.

The seafood dish was fresh and tasty! The prawn in particular was to die for! The plate could be easily shared for 3 people.

The dessert was nice but the combo was too heavy for us!
