I used to love Miyabi a few years ago, gave it 5 stars previously, but it has been gradually getting worse and worse. And I gave it quite a few chances in the past year alone even though it was disappointing over and over. After my last visits I decided I'm changing my positive review from a few years ago. Why - quality has decreased dramatically and prices got ridiculous. I'll go over some of the menu items: Shoyu ramen is bland and tasteless. Price - 32 leva, not justified. Tonkatsu set - dry and chewy pork, nothing to do with how tonkatsu should actually taste. Now priced at 48 leva! Similar situation with the Katsu Curry. Sushi - one of the few things on the menu that is still kind of ok, but there is better sushi in Sofia for much better prices. Miso soup and green tea - you are trying to promote Japanese culture and you charge 11 leva for a miso soup and 8 leva for green tea that is given for free in most restaurants in Japan? Ok, I know we are not in Japan, but if you are not going to give it for free at least don't overcharge that much. Okonomiyaki - 40 leva? Come on...
Service is also far from what you would expect for the prices. One thing that remains good is the ambiance, the interior is really nice, which is probably why I tolerated this place for so long. But please try to take care of the rest, you...
Read morePROS: Great waitress Miso soup - awesome but tiny, served in a small cup, not a bowl! Okonomiyaki was impressive but, as others have pointed out, drenched in too much barbecue sauce and mayonnaise (it is only on top though, so you can remove it) CONS: Prices are outrageous, especially considering the small portions of some items. At this level, an eatery simply can’t afford to have an item that is less than stellar, and this is not the case here — as you can see by the many disappointed visitors. There simply aren’t enough foreign cuisines in Sofia — that is why they feel entitled to demand prices not based on realty. Not enough vegetarian meals Poor ventilation, reeks of food No dessert menu No matcha lattes, seriously? - they’re so popular now; they have fridges, they could even sell ceremonial matcha there - a missed opportunity Cash only at these prices, in 2024? - but they do take Revout. They offer forks but no knives? Note that 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 can easily be remedied - but they haven’t been, for years, judging by these opinions — we see the same issues over the years. I will be searching for other Japanese restaurants with more reasonable prices and more consistent...
Read moreThis was a great experience. But let me start with the service. The service we received was the best we've ever gotten. I want to congratulate the young server who went above and beyond trying to make us feel comfortable. He was extremely cheerful and we did appreciate that! Thank you.
The restaurant felt very cosy and traditional. The atmosphere was very quiet. We tried several dishes out of which I liked the lamb shanks the most. This was by far the most rare(almost raw) meal I've ever gotten. Yet somehow it tasted super delicious and was seasoned very well. It was a pleasant surprise.
Another pleasant surprise was that the sushi had a flavour. Having visited numerous sushi restaurants in the United States I can easily say miyabi beats them all. In the states the sushi never has a flavour by itself. I always have to apply soy sauce and wasabi/ginger. The sushi here tasted delicious on its own.
Another interesting fact is that this is the first restaurant where the tuna was not dyed. For a moment we thought it might have been old but it had no smell and we felt fine afterwards. Kudos for providing your customers with natural fish with...
