I can see why this museum is great for locals, it has lots of exhibits and information and is very well priced. Personally, I found the preserved animals and taxidermy (not all exhibits were like this though) hard to look at in some cases. However, if this is an interest of yours then this museum would be great for you. We particularly liked the minerals and crystal section as we are more interested in the science behind this - again if this is your interest you will be amazed at the collections the museum has (we certainly were!). For those who don't know the local language, there is very limited english or other languages available on the exhibits, although I believe the staff are helpful if you were to approach them and ask. Overall, a really good museum for those not too affected by stuffed or preserved animals as this covers 3 floors, and the minerals are on the ground floor.

Great collection! Audioguide is a bit confused by order (and missing numbers), so if you got one - expect tiny additional quest about finding first item on the floor))) The museum has minerals section (with nice UV case), birds floor (lot of which are probably bigger than your children), two-headed turtle, mammal floor (monk seals story made me cry, literally; zubr story is a long-term scar on heart though). Got to insect floor already exhausted a bit, but or really worth your while (for example water bug which hunts frogs) and the top of the cake is giant seashell (literally sink-size), couple of omars that could chew your leg off and the Nautilus Pompilius.

Old, aged, moth-eaten place. Nice fossils and exhibition. This museum is in the heart of the capital of Bulgaria... I do not think it ever got any major upgrades and repairs which is sick. Places like this should be the face of our tourism, nation and cultural heritage before the eyes of the visitors both local and international. I felt ashamed myself hearing the conversations about the museum by foreign tourists. Restrooms should have -2 stars for cleanness and quality(stinky, dirty and disgusting). Staff could be more helpful and polite. Right after entering the building you are seeing a grumpy, sullen lady who obviously is acting bothered by your presence. You don't get a lot of guidance through the building. On top of that 10 BGN ticket seems to be too much for...

It seems that not much has happened at this place since the 1970s. The place and the collection is severely run down. Was met by rude staff at the entrance that quite literally rolled her eyes at us when we ordered the admission tickets. Very poor examples of taxidermy and I swear some of the exhibition pieces must be made of papier mâché with a multi-decade old paint job. This museum has not been made to inform and entertain you. It is merely a boring collection of a lot of specimens with catalog names, and this is likely in the name of science and not for the masses. Everything that this museum offers is done better on the Internet. The place should be shut down as it has outlived...
