Denny's Abbotsford - A Disappointing Experience
We frequently dine at Denny's, usually in Penticton or Kelowna, as we're from the Kootenays and visit those areas for groceries and it is a few hours away to get there and usually hungry. When visiting family in the Lower Mainland, we occasionally stop at the Abbotsford location. However, our experience at this location has been consistently disappointing, and today was no exception.
We stopped coming to this location after the pandemic because, on multiple occasions, they were out of salads and soups. Today, we decided to give it another try while in the area, but it quickly became clear that little has improved.
The Environment: As we walked in, the restaurant smelled strongly of dirty oil—perhaps due to a neglected kitchen vent. While waiting for our waitress, we noticed the windows were poorly cleaned, making them look foggy. The floors were littered with food, and the underside of our table had multiple pieces of old, dried gum. I discovered this unpleasant surprise when I crossed my legs and pressed against one, leaving gum on my pants.
The Service: Service was unacceptably slow. After placing our order, it took over five minutes— Denny's Abbotsford - A Disappointing Experience

The Service: Service was unacceptably slow. After receiving our order, it took over five minutes—and three requests to two different staff members—before we received cutlery for our meals. The lack of attentiveness was frustrating, especially since we’ve experienced better service at other Denny's locations.
The Food: My salad, which usually comes before the main course, arrived with the hot food. Unfortunately, it was inedible. The lettuce had red and grey spots (indicating spoilage), and the tomatoes were blackened at the stems. Biting into them confirmed they were bad.
For my main course, I ordered chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. Instead of corn, I was served broccoli. I didn’t complain due to the poor service and decided to eat it. The chicken-fried steak was fine, but the mashed potatoes were a different story. By the third bite, I noticed a crusty, rancid taste. The smell was awful, as my husband later confirmed. I notified the waitress, who brought me the corn I originally ordered, but by then, the meal was ruined.
Post-Meal: An hour after the meal, my stomach was upset, my clothes reiked of dirty oil and I couldn’t get rid of the terrible taste in my mouth. This is not only the worst meal I’ve had at Denny's but also one of the worst dining experiences overall.
Final Thoughts: I don’t usually leave bad reviews (at least not a first time as everyone can have a bad day), but this experience was unacceptable. The poor food quality, unclean environment, and lackluster service make it clear that this location needs significant improvements. We've given this Denny's multiple chances, but after this, we won’t...
Read moreThis evening I went into Denny’s on Simon to have a nice meal. The waitress was friendly at first ordering our supper. We got the supper promptly and it was delicious but that was all the service we got. We were not asked if we wanted refills on our drinks and after we were finished we waited for someone, anyone to come by and ask us if we would like our bill but nobody did so we got up and waited at the front. Finally the manager came by and helped us. He asked us if we had a bill. I said nobody came by to give us one. So he printed the bill. I looked at it and asked why the drinks were so expensive. He told me the refills were free. I told him nobody came by our table and asked us if we would like refills. He started to blame us and said, “we should have asked for refills.” And “she didn’t bring us refills because it would be a wast of money if we didn’t drink it.” For one thing a waitress should ask if we would like refills. And nobody came by our table so there was nobody to ask for refills. Anyways he then offered to give us a drink for the road not understanding that that is not the point and that we were thirsty at our meal. He did not understand that we didn’t want to take one home with us I couldn’t believe it! That he would treat customers like that. Trying to blame us and not understanding that it’s not our fault. If I wasn’t with my wife I would have had a serious discussion with him about how to be polite to your customers. My next step is to talk with CEO about how his franchisee is destroying Denny’s restaurant’s reputation. He has no business working in...
Read moreAttention CEO of Denny's restaurant for the Simon avenue location in Abbotsford. We're writing to you today to ask you to give the highest commendation, respect and endless accolades for a truly great professional, Gurpreet.
Our experience today honestly left us speechless, as Gurpreet really cared about special instructions on the order, due to a recent operation on the throat.
This amazing professional, great human being is truly a blessing and we really appreciate her... She had taken time with me on the phone and really cared about the special instructions and executed those perfectly.. advising the chef to prepare the food in a certain manner.. this is absolute respect for us as customers and respect for Denny's, because she absolutely represents Denny's 110%.
We truly need more businesses who are cognizant of the importance of following and listening to the customer with their needs and special instructions, just like Gurpreet did today.
We trust that you will highly commend her and hopefully give her a raise for the amazing professional that she truly is, as there are not many professionals as great as her.
Please also highly commend the great chef /chefs who prepared this meal for the skip order, as the chef executed the instructions and request for the food to be soft and followed that to a t.
