I want to start by pointing out that the crème brûlée I tried at this restaurant on Christmas night was truly phenomenal—one of the best desserts I’ve ever had in my life. This homemade masterpiece struck a perfect balance: it was creamy yet light, with a texture so smooth it melted in my mouth. The sweetness was expertly calibrated, not overpowering, while the burnt sugar on top added just the right touch of bitterness for contrast. Every spoonful was a delight, and the experience was so satisfying that I couldn’t leave even the tiniest bit behind in the dish. It was absolutely dessert perfection.
For entrees, we ordered the petite rack of lamb and the schnitzel champignon. The petite rack of lamb was an excellent choice. The meat was flavorful and paired beautifully with the special spiced rice and vegetables, which elevated the dish with their unique and complementary flavors. However, the doneness of the lamb could have been better; I had ordered it well-done, but it leaned more toward medium. That said, this slight misstep didn’t overshadow the overall quality, which was still very enjoyable. As for the schnitzel champignon, it was a good dish with a lot to like. The gravy on top was a standout—it added richness and made the dish much more delightful. The sides were once again perfect, contributing balance and flavor. The only critique was that the meat could have been a bit more tender and packed with a bit more taste, but even so, it was a satisfying dish that complemented our meal well. Overall, the entrees contributed to a memorable dining experience that matched the festive spirit of...
Read moreI had a recent dinner there. I found a long strand of hair in my dish. it was awful! When I complained about it, I was told my menu would be replaced anew. As expected the manager showed up to say sorry and offer to make another new dish right away. And my dish came back. But it was very quick..mm too quick. He said he could give me the dish ordered for someone else though. All of sudden I was suspicious about the dish if they just took out the hair and put it back to me??? A friend of mine said "no it couldn't be, this restaurant is a top notched one. " ok..then. But a bit later that manager came back to check on me and said "sorry" and it was as expected until he said , you know it happens ..blabla.. What?????? That is not what he was supposed to say. Isn't it? That is what I try to understand in my mind compromising my mood as a decent customer, definitely it is not what he should say. It is like he admits his restaurant is on 'THAT' level. My evening was ruined just like that. I didn't want to make a scene in presence with many people for a special dine out for my friend's birthday. I tried to calm down. You guys should remember this , eventhough you have a dish with a hair in it , they wouldn't take it as seriously as you do, and you are expected to pay a full price as a decent customer. Because they think 'a dish with hair in it can happen sometimes there' and don't even think to give you any discount offer for that. I will NEVER go back to that restaurant. Very ..highly...
Read moreFrom the moment my wife and I entered Greek Islands on South Fraser Way we immediately knew we entered somewhere special, due to the warmth of the hostess and the upbeat ambience. Upon meeting our waitress Laura, I shared with her how impressed we were at observing the apparent contentedness of herself and her co-workers, to which she responded by stating, "We have a great boss." My wife and I have been to numerous restaurants and sometimes the customer service can be questionable, which could be common to the industry, however, one will not leave this location dissatisfied, for the calibre of service is top notch! Now let's discuss the food: fresh, beyond delicious, generous portions, and stellar presentation. I eventually sought out the boss, Niko, who was serving behind the bar, and I expressed to him how pleasing it is to experience not only wonderfully tasting food, but very attentive and superb service. Truth be known, Greek Food is not something I would historically seek out or consider to be among my favourite restaurant choices, however, after this experience, Greek Islands on South Fraser has now become one of my ultimate favourites! I am not certain if there exists "Mystery Eaters" like there is Mystery Shoppers, but if there is, don't be surprised if Niko and his obviously contented staff win...
