We had dinner here on a Sunday evening before returning to the Vancouver area. We were having dinner with some family friends and there were 6 of us all together.
The food options were diverse and I wanted to try many of the dishes because they all sounded very good. The staff were friendly and we were able to get a table immediately (because it was so empty). I initially thought it was empty because it was Sunday evening around 7pm. However, this was probably not why it was empty.
When our food came and we began to eat I was not overly impressed at the quality of what was served. In fact, I was rather disappointed at what we got for what amounted to ~$85.00 before tax/tip.
Our appetizer was the Sweet Chili Chicken Bites a bit tough and the chicken was a bit chewy. It was like the chicken had been sitting for a period of time and was either warmed up or was not fresh from that day. This was $18.50 (2.5/5). I ordered a Steak Sandwich and the slices of steak were very chewy and I had a difficult time biting through them. The flavour was pretty good and I think if the steak wasn't so tough to eat it would have been a better meal. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare and instead had it cooked to medium. They mixed this up with the order of the other family we were with. The fries that came with meal were not very well salted and looked like McCain fries you'd get from a grocery store. This was not worth $26.50 (2/5). We also ordered the Thai Curry with chicken and the person I was with enjoyed the dish. I also tried the dish and found it to be a lot better than my Steak Sandwich. However, as I was eating the bits of chicken with the dish I found that it was sprinkled with chewy bits of tendon that had a harder crunch than the meat. This was not very pleasant to eat. The dish was $28.00 (3.5/5). My son had a Kid's Meal - Burger that was very dry and provided with the same fries as I had with my dish. My son wasn't eating much of it so I took a bite and found it to be dry and overdone. The Kid's Meal was $12.00 and he had little of his meal and we went somewhere else to eat after (1.5/5) The family we were with also found their steak to be overly chewy and poorly cooked. It was supposed to be medium and instead was served medium rare. The other dish that they had went unfinished and their kid's meal was packed up and went home with them. Towards the end of the meal I was noticing that there were black flies landing on the glass and flying around the vent in the kitchen. I counted at least 6 flies landing and circulating around the area that I could see.
Both of our families combined we spent slightly over $200.00 for all six of us for dinner, with an autotip of 18% for very minimal service and subpar food. This was not worth $200.00 for six people to...
Read moreIt was the first and probably last time we will visit Milestones (High Street)in Abby. We walk in on Saturday evening of Easter weekend. From outside the place looked closed. There may have been 25 - 30 patrons in the whole restaurant; very quiet for a Saturday night. There were two of us. The hostess had no personality. She made no eye contact. She sat us down at a small table in the dining room. I immediately requested the lounge (to catch up on some highlights perhaps). The lounge had two tables occupied and a couple at the bar. Exactly 7 people in the lounge. I asked if we could be seated in the booth instead of a tall table for four. The answer was, “no, that’s for people with reservations”. I proceeded to observe the restaurant with curiosity and the time on my watch. Then, Kevin, the bartender came over to take our drink order. I proceeded to ask Kevin, “Are you expecting a large rush of people at 9pm? We asked to sit in the booth and your hostess said no.” He answered, “that’s right, we have large parties coming in before they go to the late show at the theatre”. To which I replied, “We are here right now, and there’s lots of tables, are you really not going to allow us to sit in the booth?” He continued the narrative to my dismay. He also made no effort to connect on any personal level. We left the restaurant at 10:15pm... nobody new came in.
My dish was good; the Roma Chicken Parm. My girlfriend wasn’t a fan of her pasta. I wasn’t going to tip Kevin, but I did.
Call me crazy, do we not care about our immediate customer rather than the ‘hopefully potential’ customer. Is there not a standard of hospitality that is embedded into the training of our service work force in Abbotsford? I’ve been to third world countries that operate with a higher standards. Whose job is it to train the likes of Kevin and the hostess?
I hold a service position with a local group who is hard at work envisioning the potential for our small town to host major events. Sadly, I’m newly pessimistic of the quality of the product we would be advertising.
To the owners of Milestones,
Train your staff. They are your greatest promoters, marketers, and sales personnel. They are the face of your business. If your managers can not evoke a passion from your staff, get new ones. Every business in this city ESPECIALLY IN HIGH STREET MALL needs to leave a better lasting impression on our guests than the dismal display the other night. I will be forwarding this to the HighStreet ownership group. I pray that you wake up to realize your True potential. There’s lots to work on!!! Get at...
Read moreMy husband and I went for lunch on pre-Valentine's Sunday this year 2022. Firstly, there was loud disco music on. I asked the girls at the front desk if it can be turned down. I was told they can't do it because the volume is pre-set!!! We were promised to be moved to a more quiet section, but nothing happened. When you come to a restaurant you want to have a relaxation meal where you can talk to your partner. Another thing - my wine glass had something dried up in and on it. The waitress gave me a clean glass. I ordered a sea bass with chimichuri sauce. The rice was dry and tasteless, and there was no chimichuri sauce, only some grey bits and two dried up hard pale looking stems. I complained to the manager who brought me soya sauce for rice, but no chimichuri sauce. I expected he would bring that too, as they should have had it pre-made. For the vegies there were 2 slices of a beetroot, green beans were undercooked. My spring salad had very little dressing on it. A very disappointing visit. We used to like going there, and we were happy with everything. I always ordered the spring salad, and the dressing was obvious and tasty. I am wondering if the management or a chef changed. Considering this visit, the only positive thing was our server. The reason why we didn't leave right away was, that we had a gift card as the family knew we liked the restaurant. But this was for sure our last visit there. We know the restaurants have increased their prices, but is it fair when they offer you a low quality meal in an unpleasant environment. In the end the manager apologized, but made very little(soy sauce) to make our visit...
