Terrible experience this evening.
One of the servers spilled sauce on my teenaged son. She did not know how to deal with the spill, which had splattered on the floor, the wall, the television on the wall behind us, my son's face, hair, hat, shirt and pants. I told her to get napkins and to clean up the spill.
At the end of the meal, the "manager" bartender informed me I was no longer welcome at Chuck's because I "yelled" at the 15-year old server who apparently has some sort of anxiety disorder. I explained that I did not "yell" at the server, but told her to get napkins and to clean up the spill. I asked her to consider how she would deal with this if someone had spilled sauce all over her child and her child's clothes, and she agreed, but apparently this restaurant is prepared to ban a customer who has attended at least once a week for years without any issue at all.
This location is notorious for having off-duty staff and their friends hanging out at the bar, and they enjoyed getting involved tonight. Two of their male friends, who are not employees of Chuck's, aggressively escorted me and my son out as we were leaving. I'd like to reiterate that this his how they treated a father and teenage son, who have attended there many, many times. No alcohol was consumed. There was absolutely no basis for their behavior, but perhaps they enjoy feeling cool acting like they are managing a restaurant or something.
It's unbelievable that this restaurant's staff spills sauce on you, and then throws you out for being disappointed with them for doing so.
While my family will be very happy to watch sports at any of the many other places nearby from now on, I recall an incident that happened a couple years ago at another restaurant where the server accidentally spilled food on my son. In that instance, the server and manager apologized, cleaned up the spill, comped us dessert, comped my son's meal, and even gave him money for dry cleaning. This evening, I had no expectation receive anything other than an apology for their missteps and miscues, but apparently, Chuck's staff would prefer to create drama where there was none rather than acknowledge they need to do something when a staff member spills sauce on a customer. What an incredible difference between our expectations of an apology and the Ajax Chuck's commitment to maintaining the worst possible level of customer service, even in light of their "Honest To Goodness" fee.
Its pretty apparent that the entire management of this location (and their drunken friends who hang out at the bar) have their heads up their rear ends. I am still in utter disbelief that we were told not to be frustrated with the fact that sauce had been spilled on my son, let alone told that we were not welcome back at the end of our dinner when we thought the incident had been finished.
If you want to have sauce spilled on you, and then told that you have to leave the bar because the underage staff person who spilled sauce on you has an apparent anxiety disorder and could not handle your request to get napkins, this is the...
Read moreWe had heard good things about Chuck's Roadhouse (the Whitby location) from a friend of ours so we decided to try it out ourselves. I don't know if the Ajax and Whitby locations are owned/managed by the same people, or maybe my friend who recommended it needs her head checked, but our experience was pretty lousy. The deals are amazing - cheap drinks (not only just beer deals), great daily specials, and even their everyday food items on the regular menu are more than affordable. We had buffalo chicken fingers ($1.29 each!), a cheeseburger and fries combo, that was only $7, and a 7 oz steak dinner with fries and a quarter cob of corn. The steak was cooked perfectly and super tender. The food isn't super high quality or made in house from scratch, but it's definitely worth it. The problem wasn't the frozen fries or the gin martini that was made out of two shots of gin and no vermouth (I wasn't complaining - for $4, I was fine with it). The problem with our experience was the service. It was so so so bad. Not that the servers were nasty or rude or cold or distant - they were pleasant and friendly enough. It's just that everything was so slow. And not because the servers moved slowly. We were sitting at the bar and could watch the servers and how they worked. The problem was that on this given night, they seemed to spend a lot of time standing around, talking to each other about whatever bar drama was going on and not working at all. There was a table of really loud drunk people (I'm 100% sure half of them were employees of the place that had either just finished their shifts or came in on their night off) who were getting drinks regularly. Maybe its because they were just getting the drinks themselves or they just yelled at the bartender louder than us, but I wasn't about to do either of those things. Getting anything ordered took forever, getting our plates cleared took forever and even trying to pay, once they printed off our bills took forever. If the service hadn't been so slow, my friends and I would have spent two or three times as much as we did, and spent more time there. As it was, we drank, ate and paid our bills and got out of there as quickly as we could... which ended up being not quickly at all. The crazy loud yelling table was annoying, the place didn't seem to have the a/c going and it was a really hot night and we just wanted to spend our money at a place that wanted to serve us in a timely manner. Maybe the Whitby locations are better - they might be - I don't know. But at this point I don't really think I'm going to give...
Read moreArrived at the Roadhouse between 3:30-4:00pm on Easter weekend Saturday by bus from Whitby, waiting for my friend to arrive. Decided to sit at the bar until he arrived, so I was greeted by bartender with a quarter smile however far from welcoming! Placed order and awaiting arrival, while sitting there I tried engaging in conversation with bartender lady but not received properly…..cold, not interested, busy, and other thoughts passed through my mind! Honestly I was close to changing venues and/or sit where she was not serving ( a customer sitting near me saved the day at that moment by conversation). I was at the Whitby location about 7 months ago and it kinda needs some good energy!! Chucks in Courtice was buzzing and fun!!! This was my second visit here to your location for the Steak dinner…..delicious and didn’t miss Keg, Montana’s, Milestones etc! Outmatched and out priced with no compromise on flavour! Fries with a steak of that class should be baked or mashed in my opinion! However it was fabulous! Friend wanted to make it our new hang, he drives in from Scarborough! Anyway he arrived and I paid my tab at bar, tipped her well (in spite of her service)still and shifted to dining table for dinner! New server, looked like she just started shift. Well what a gi-normous difference a server makes! The place came alive and I was able to finally have a quick chat! Her name is Maddy, here is the description: warm, friendly, kind, courteous, professional, and represented your establishment with class! She deserves double pay and more appreciation, if she’s not getting that! Smart and sharp gal!! Didn’t get other name however Maddy made up for all the bad service I’ve experienced at there and other spots! Five star rating because of her! Owners need to pay more attention to their staff! Bad day or not it’s showtime ladies when serving customers! Otherwise stay home!! Thank you Chucks for everything and see you soon!!! BTW that environment is conducive for any server to have fun and make good coin! Front door greeters are so nice,...
