I should have written this a few months back. I've been to this cafe a few times but I've stopped. I live almost 30kms away, so it's quite a distance to travel, but I love doughnuts...I'm the type of guy that will buy a dozen doughnuts (all different varieties), and eat nearly 1/8 piece of each doughnut in one sitting and within 3-4 days, finish the entire box! Now, I've been to this doughnut place maybe around 5 or 6 times in the past 7 years and every time, the quality of the doughnuts get worse and the price has gone up slightly. They look good (nice huge fluffy doughnuts) but, they taste like they've been fried in OLD OIL (oil that has passed it's smoke point and begun to turn black and smoke - leaving a horrible smell and after-taste) and some of them are overly GREASY (this can happen if the oil is too cold when frying or if the doughnuts have over-proofed) and after eating 1/4 doughnut you get a stomach ache probably because the oil is not fresh. Sorry, but I just have to tell the truth! If wherever they source their doughnuts from would begin using fresh oil, I'd consider making trip back to this place - otherwise, I'll just say so long and wait for my next trip downtown when I'll go to Krispy Creme (as I think Tim's Doughnuts are NOT the best; Coffee Time donuts were not bad, but I don't see many of those places around and Country Style donuts the last time I had been - maybe 5yrs ago had a very limited selection). I generally prefer cake doughnuts but sometimes I like the various filled doughnuts too - If I'm in the USA, I'll for sure check out Dunkin' Donuts and bring back a dozen across the border. I remember Dunkin' Donuts in the GTA and in Montreal, but I don't believe we have any left in...
Read moreThe donuts are good. I give them that however, the service is sooo bad! The owners are rude They have this weird rule where they limit you on certain flavours of their DONUTS!! You can't buy all the donut flavours that you want. We went in there and after selecting a few flavours because we were buying a dozen we were told that we can only get 1 donut of the other flavour and if we wanted to get 2 we would have to return 1 of the other flavours we had picked. I even offered to pay extra and they just ignored my comment. I am a paying customer offering to pay extra to get the donut flavours that I want yet I am being told on what I can and can't get. I understand that they want to ensure that their customers are paying the right amount so why not just charge extra or charge per piece instead of limiting...
Read moreThe food is delicious, however they constantly change the prices and rules of ordering depending on how it benefits them. For example, they prohibit you from ordering more than 4 of the same kind of doughnut now, and you can't order half a dozen doughnuts if they have a combined 20 doughnuts left of different kinds. They also barely ever have doughnuts after 10am, so how can it be a doughnut shop if they don't ever have the product? Additionally the staff is extremely rude half the time when you ask why their rules always change. The new ownership is terrible compared to what it used to be, and it's such a shame they are ruining the amazing reputation this great place once...
