Westney Restaurant and Bar — Restaurant in Ajax

My daughter and I visited this restaurant on Tuesday, October 29th, around 6:00 pm. It was a busy evening, and the server, an older woman, was assisting arriving guests while also handling payments. To clarify, this review is not about the food—the food was excellent. However, the customer service we received from this particular server was extremely disappointing.

Upon entering, we waited patiently to be acknowledged, but the server ignored us while immediately attending to customers who had just arrived. My daughter eventually approached her to request a menu for takeout. After about five minutes, we were ready to place our order and waited patiently once again. Although I understood the restaurant was busy, what happened next seemed discriminatory. The server was about to take my daughter’s order when another customer entered. She immediately turned away from us and approached the new customer instead. Even when the customer insisted we should be served first, the server ignored them and continued taking their order. Only after this exchange did she return to us to take our order.

We ordered the daily special, which was advertised as “any pasta for $15.99” and included garlic bread and a salad. After placing our order, I thanked the other customer for their courtesy, and we waited for about 25 minutes. When our order was ready, the server charged us full price for the pasta instead of the advertised special price. I questioned the charge, and she replied that I should have specifically requested the "special." I pointed out that the sign indicated “any pasta” for the special price. Meanwhile, I noticed that she had seated a family of three, took their order, and provided them with the special—including the salad—without them mentioning it explicitly. I overheard this as I was standing nearby.

The server eventually corrected our charge but omitted the salad that was supposed to accompany the special. This wasn’t our first visit to the restaurant, and we’ve always had positive experiences with other staff members. However, this particular server’s behavior was concerning. April 28 : I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap. When I received my order, there was no buffalo sauce, only ranch or caesar. I unrolled my wrap and showed my tablemates to be sure and they agreed. Two dishes of three were sent back a cold soup and my wrap. When the waitress brought my food back she insulted me, said "That WAS the buffalo wrap. There WAS sauce on it, the cook just put MORE on". I opened it to find it full of white sauce and a tiny bit of buffalo(orange). However being talked back to by staff had put me off, and I felt too uncomfortable to ask why my buffalo wrap was full of ceasar dressing and not buffalo. I found this to be very unprofessional of the staff at westneys.

Tldr: asked for buffalo sauce on buffalo wrap. Got caesar twice, no explanation. Instead got back talked to by waitress.

Note: the women's washroom neither locks nor latches (this is a bar)

It has been made aware to me that there is a gap in the door frame of the men's washroom where you can see straight into the restaurant and vice versa.

This is hardly the first time I've received the wrong order or bad coffee here, but it is certainly the last...

July 5 2019 Had great meal , 2 fish dinners, chicken strips n fries and buffalo wrap ... 60$ fair price for what we had, 2 piece fish is really just 1 piece cut in half tho

May 30 2019 ... Back again this morning, fantastic as always ... Had Western with Fries, Fish n Chips, Pancakes and Ham , Philly Cheesesteak, coffees ... All for 54 bucks ... Service was great always from our fav lady.

May 2019 ... Our local spot ... They do a great job here with home style menu ... Food is a good portion and priced fair. Breakfast, lunch or dinner the menu is excellent , with legit specials everyday ... Had a few bad hires with new servers ... Seem to turn over quick ... But the one lady that is akways there is awesome ... Try the chicken parm ... Its done to perfection
