Boston Pizza — Restaurant in Alberta

This review is an amalgamation of several visits to BP in High River. Some visits have been very pleasant. Others have been abysmally poor. My advice is to avoid the bar and to stick to the restaurant side at lunch. The food quality is the same regardless of which side. It's not outstanding, but it's decent with decent flavor. The difference is the service you receive. Each time I have sat on the bar side the service has been awful with an inattentive server, food that takes a ridiculously long time to come out, drinks that aren't refilled, and an attitude from the server/bartender that shows your experience nor your tip is particularly important to her. On the restaurant side, I have received good service, especially from the tall bald server whose name I cannot recall. He always gets a 20%+ tip from me.

So overall, 3 stars for food. It's about what you would expect. Service on restaurant side, 4 stars. Service on bar...

My toddler child, spouse and I walked in, greeted by the friendly staff. They offered us a CLEAN high chair that was plastic wrapped, set it up for us and took off the wrap revealing a clean sanitized chair for our child. I went to the bathroom, the toilet flushed for me, the flow of the faucet was absolutely pristine, and the paper towel was stocked and sensed me as I walked up to the sink. Absolutely flawless. The server was knowledgeable, friendly, and remembered our entire order. The food? Impeccable. My family ate like royalty. My child got to draw with crayons. The server even noticed that I didn’t order onions on my pizza, and wanted to inform us that there was green onion in the dip for the garlic Parmesan fries. Freshly grated Parmesan on top. We were in town for an annual lacrosse tournament and decided to bring the team in. It was spur of the moment so we didn’t have a reservation. 30 of us walked in and asked the host if they had room for us as they appeared quite busy at the time. She smiled and said they might not be able to get all of together but they’d figure something out for us. Well within 5-10 minutes we were seated, in a few different spots but it didn’t matter as the place was packed, it was storming outside and it was Saturday night. The service staff was amazing, the food was delicious and came in a timely manner considering how busy it was. Nice touch was the General Manager Jeff came around and introduced himself to all of us asking how we did in the tournament and how our experience was going. We live in Calgary and don’t usually come out this way but we’ll be by again for sure next year when the tournament comes...
