My favourite. War won'ton soup. I like the western Chinese food. One thing about it, it's like a chain store item -- supposed to be the same everywhere. There is always a menu item I would prefer at one place yet another menu item I prefer elsewhere. I can't see this being much different for most people -- so I can tell you the items I normally get and compare those with the still open competition. Wor.won.ton.soup. Yes. The sweet and sour pork, yes. Pork fried rice. Yes. Dumplings. Yes. Egg rolls. Yes. Sometimes another place opens, they would have one menu item better but only one. One place now I thought was considerably cheaper but the amount of food was considerably less. So it was actually more expensive. I always have leftovers, so I stopped trying to think I wouldn't and just go with it. When I order food, I order for tonight and consider the leftovers and maybe add another dish so I can make "lunchables" for the freezer. For me and teenage boy, $60.00 would be bill and 15% tip. That would be that night plus four lunches in freezer. Eating inside, huge. They have an art pierce on ceiling that is nothing less than insanely incredible!! They could lose the kitchen and turn that place into an art show but when your hungry and going to a restaurant, I am sure we have been in there countless times before I ever actually put thought into the art. The ceiling thing is incredible. They don't have their art displayed in any type of fashion, it seems purely functional for Feng shui which is why I probably never deliberately stopped to appreciate the artwork in there. It is usually empty except for pickup orders, but place is huge. Food is good....
Read moreThis is a strange one. The restaurant opens at 4pm. I arrived at 5:30pm and sat myself down in the completely empty dining room on a Tuesday night. After a couple of minutes, the owner of the restaurant came over to me and gave me the menus to me and explained to me that no staff had shown up so she was working on her own and that anything I ordered would be at least a half an hour. She was very obviously in a grumpy mood so I smiled and told her no worries and waited for the rest of my party.
When the other 2 people arrived about 10 minutes later we looked through the menus and waited to be served. One other couple eventually came in to dine and a few people came in for take out orders but the restaurant was obviously not getting overrun by orders.
We finally were able to get ice water to start which she brought with an exaggerated frown on her face. I tried to encourage her by stating that she is an ironwoman, to which she said "I don't understand English." The owner of 27 years doesn't understand English? Or, more plausibly I don't want to speak with you?
She never came back to our table and after an hour and a half we finally gave up and left. I don't think I have ever waited an hour and a half in any restaurant before and not had...
Read moreI am STUFFED . This was my first time at this restaurant and it was quite satisfying. I was surprised by the large portions. Tonight I tried dinner for one combo that had beef and vegetables veggie fried rice and also a healthy portion of ginger beef. It also came with a spring roll which I was too full to enjoy but I'm sure it was good. A nice meal for $15. The server was quite nice and friendly. It looks like they used to have a buffet however I asked the lady and she said it has not been functioning for years but the whole buffet system is there taking up quite a bit of space in the middle of the restaurant. I almost wanted to buy the the buffet tables. Anyways definitely pretty decent meal here tonight in Okotoks. I've included one picture...
