Awesome Place! So friendly and accommodating. Right from the moment I walked through the door I was greeted with a smile and told to sit where ever I like. The gentleman brought me a newspaper and was such a nice man. Then a lady came out (I assume was his wife. Forgive me if I am wrong) and she to was very pleasant. She took my order and my meal came quickly and was fantastic! I had a bacon, mushroom, cheese burger with fries and as I said it was so yummy! I love that it was clearly a homemade patty and a generous amount of real bacon. I also love that they have so many different options on their menu. Not just burgers and fries but also old style fish and chips and even Wor Won Ton Soup, which I will absolutely be having next time as it looked amazing. Another Customer ordered it and said it was very good. Yes the restaurant is a little small with minimal seating but I think that adds to its charm. I grew up with fish and chips from small little places that used newspaper lined dishes so this to me was a visit back to my childhood. I will without question be back. I love...
Read moreMy review is based on the Cheeseburger and Poutine, as I cant yet speak for anything else. I found the spices used in the burger patty to be fairly good, and it was exceptionally tender. However, I was expecting an explosion in my mouth based on the reviews of this place, and overall it was an underwhelming experience and I'd say quite over rated.
I read a review below that someone had left about the Poutine being the best they had ever had... I sort of wonder now where this person is from?! LOL it was acceptable at best. But I am also from a small town on the border of Quebec/Ontario, so Poutines are real hard to beat in that area. I've only found maybe 2 restaurants out here that are comparable in quality as those out East, so if you want to give a real one a go, I suggest Grumen's Deli in Calgary and La Belle Patate in Canmore, which I think is now called 514 Poutine so I don't know if the new owner has maintained the Quebec Style quality.
Either way, it was better than McDonalds and the owners were great! Super...
Read moreMy dad learned to make fish and chips in England, then came to Canada and learned the Canadian method as well, serving fish and chips for 30-40 years. We went to Mr Spud Cafe because we heard from friends that theirs was very good and award winning. We ordered the Halibut & Chips and the Grilled Halibut with salad. The Halibut & Chips were delicious... crisp on the outside, just the right amount of batter, moist fish on the inside. The fries were were the right texture and properly done as well. And at about $12, the price was reasonable for halibut. My dad very much enjoyed the dish as well, considering he usually has a lot of critique for other ones he's tried.
The grilled halibut was a decent healthy option, but without the batter, the fish was a bit drier.
Highly recommend for the...
