The Canadian Brewhouse (Okotoks) — Restaurant in Alberta

Tuna poke bowl was okay.

Yikes! The server forgot my gravy after being reminded when I got my food well after the rest of the table. Obviously they forgot my order. The gravy was on the invoice though, imagine that! The fish meal was absolutely disgusting (must have beenold cooking oil) and the tartar sauce was so bland we all couldn’t pin point what it actually was. The cheese dip was barely warm so it must have hung out for a loooooong while in the kitchen. Another thing that burns me is we are obligated to tip on dump food and service. We’ve been here 100’s of times and I believe this is just a bad one off but I’m definitely not getting the fish and chips again.

Well now. Where do we start. Came in to watch the football / soccer and bar was maybe 1/2 full. Waited and waited for menus and after watching two different servers walk past and set menus down on the tables of people who came in after us? I decided to be proactive and went to the bar. Barmaid acknowledged me but was busy so I tried to catch the eyes of the servers who are exceptionally well trained in avoiding eye contact. Gave up after a couple minutes and sat down at my table. Eventually I saw one looking and stood up and waved both arms to get her attention. That worked. Prob 10 mins in by this point? First round of drinks came quickly enough but that was the end of the prompt service. “Sorry, we are busy” (prob 3/4 full now at a push) Managed to get a second round and that was the end of the drinks apparently.

After a ‘little bit of a wait ’ the kids meals finally came. Food was top notch I have to say. Worth a wait but not the constant attempted attracting of the servers. Asked for desserts for kids and then after about 15 mins reminded about desserts for kids. By this time? 45 mins in, first half of game was over. Decided to have maybe one more drink to replace my once again empty glass.

I was obviously dreaming.

The 15 minutes of the half time passed. No service. The 45 mins of the second half passed. No service. Well, almost 45 I suppose as the game was still playing when the table was finally cleared. A quick look around the bar and I would have estimated 1/3 full. Waited and waited for someone to come and give the bill. Eventually one of my party at a different table attracted the attention of the server who rapidly produced the bill. Good to see this part happens effectively. Paid up and after being unable to find the 10 % tip option begrudgingly gave the 16 %. Walked out the door, drove off and suddenly one of my party points out that a food item has magically appeared on my bill. A sneaky little addition of a $20 burger. Was it worth the drive back? I think not.

Roast to me for not checking properly. I didn’t think they could mess that up also. I’d hate to think what would happen on a Saturday night. Seriously though? I’m more ticked off about constantly having to flag down servers than the $20.

Review: The Canadian Brewhouse in Okotoks

We have given the Canadian Brewhouse in Okotoks three chances over the past two years, and each visit has been a disappointing experience. Our latest attempt was on a Thursday evening at approximately 8:45 PM last week, and it was the worst yet.

Upon arrival, the state of cleanliness was immediately concerning. Most of the tables were dirty, and the staff appeared indifferent about addressing this. We reluctantly chose a table outside, which, like all the others, was dirty. While sitting outside, we noticed three other tables—two of which were finished eating, and the third seemed done as well. A woman, who appeared to be the manager due to her distinct attire, kept visiting this third table, giving it excessive attention while ignoring the state of the rest of the establishment.

We waited for about 20 minutes before a waitress came to take our drink orders. The drinks took a while to arrive, and we still hadn’t received any menus. We decided to look up the menu online so we could order as soon as our drinks arrived. When the drinks were finally served, the waitress informed us she would get our server to come over. Another 10 minutes passed without any sign of our server.

At this point, we had been waiting for over 30 minutes. Frustrated, I went inside to find someone to take our order. The girl who had brought our drinks was chatting at the bar and seemed surprised when I asked again for someone to take our order. The supposed server was preoccupied with another table, taking their payment instead of attending to us or providing menus.

My frustration was evident, and the woman who seemed to be the manager took notice, prompting the girl to rush out and take our order. By then, my husband had lost all patience. He decided we would pay for our beers and leave, not wanting to endure any more of the subpar service.

This experience was consistent with our previous visits two years ago and a year ago. Despite the 4.5-star rating on Google, our repeated attempts have been nothing short of horrible. We cannot understand how this place maintains such high ratings given our consistently negative experiences.
