We have been to Yokozuna many times over the last 5 years, but this is my first review for it.

The food and service at Yokozuna is always high quality. Friendly and efficient staff combined with well-made and flavourful food is the norm here.

The menu is fairly extensive, with plenty of eye-catching pictures for some items. All menu items are accompanied by descriptions though, and the staff are always able to answer questions you might have.

The dining area is very well kept: extremely clean and tidy with a minimum of decor, aside from a collection of diners' photos near the entrance. You can sit at one of the several tables, booths, or at the sushi bar (my favorite) and watch the chef expertly prepare food. the entire space is hard surfaces so it can get noisy during busy times, but that's a minor quibble. The washroom facilities, tucked away at the back, are also very clean.

Like most non-fast-food establishments these days, prices are a little on the high side for what we got. $6 for one California roll (6 regular size pieces) and $12 for a modest bowl of beef udon, and another $12 for chicken udon. Good food, but maybe kind of pricey for the budget-conscious.

Summary: all round good food, good service and a clean environment make for a pleasant dining experience, at a ...

I was visiting from Calgary and I was pleasantly surprised by this place! The staff spoke Japanese, which immediately gave me more confidence in the food. Here is what we ordered and my thoughts:

Miso soup: was a generous portion for the $2.50 price, not too salty, and quite flavourful. The only thing I would change is to cube the tofu bits to be a bit bigger, but that's just my personal preference.

Deluxe Sashimi: was delicious! It came with 2 pieces of red tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of white tuna, 2 pieces of ebi, 2 pieces of tako (octopus), 2 pieces of unagi, 2 pieces of hamachi (yellowtail), 2 pieces of toro (tuna belly), and 4 scallops. All pieces tasted fresh (or as fresh as we can get in Alberta) and the pieces were all reasonably-sized.

Cherry Blossom Roll: I'm usually not into sauces, but the kiwi sauce actually paired fairly well with the roll, and it was used in a reasonable portion. The avocado, salmon, and tuna all blended well together. The seaweed salad was a bit odd and I could've done without that part, but overall it was a tasty roll.

Vancouver Roll: I love the avocado, mango, salmon, and tuna combination. This would've been an exceptional roll, but the rice...

This restaurant is located in a strip mall in the south end of Okotoks. It is pretty easy to find. It isn’t very big so I would imagine that it gets pretty busy, especially on weekends. I ate here in on Monday and around 5:30, it was getting pretty full. The food here is delicious and I really appreciated all of the vegetarian options. I have never been to a sushi restaurant that had so many interesting and fun rolls that were veggie friendly. It is a little pricey but not unreasonable. The portions of the special rolls are huge so I think you are getting your money’s worth. My toddler couldn’t get enough of the sushi here as well. They have nice clean high chairs for kids too. The servers are quite sweet and really helpful!

I was really happy to see that they don’t give out straws and gave my daughter a compostable cup! I love when restaurants make these changes to do their part in taking care of our planet.

Edit: since my last visit, they have cleaned and updated the bathroom. I think it’s amazing that Yokozuna listens to suggestions. I am...

The traditional sushi is quite good here, but I didn't enjoy the special role we ordered. Whenever the special roll has "crab" in it, that seems to mean it is a California roll. Also, the special roll was way to big to eat, but you can order a regular version for 20% less which would be much better (regular should be the default size). The service was very good and quite prompt but we were there right at opening so not very busy. Nigiri has large pieces of fish, and they were all excellent except for scallop which was not particularly flavourful or tender. We also ordered calamari and it was delicious! Overall I definitely recommend yokozuna but I would probably stay away from most of the special rolls.
