My wife and I were cruising back to Calgary after checking out the Okotoks Erratic (a big rock, surprisingly photogenic), and we figured we’d stop for a bite. Thanks to all the glowing reviews, we ended up at The Social Kabob, and I’m so glad we did.
Right from the start, Dianne greeted us with a big smile and let us pick any seat since it was a quiet weekday afternoon. We hadn’t even ordered yet, and out came a plate of papad with mint chutney. That’s the kind of welcome we appreciate!
The menu was extensive, so we asked Dianne for a recommendation for something light. She suggested the Mixed Chicken or Meat Tandoori Grill Platters, which include two sides and even come with fish. We went with the Chicken Platter, paired with a garden salad and naan. Thank you, Dianne, for such an excellent suggestion!
Everything was fresh and well-prepared. The salad was crisp and lightly seasoned, and the naan was just the right size for lunch. When the platter arrived, the aroma was incredible. Each piece of chicken and fish was tender, flavourful, mouthwatering, and perfectly cooked. As for the seasoning, some places go overboard to mask poor cooking. Not here. At The Social Kabob, it was spot-on, giving the meal that comforting, homemade feel that leaves you craving more.
The only downside? We live in the NW of Calgary, an hour away! But this spot is absolutely worth the drive, and we’re already planning to return...
Read moreThe Social Kabob is by far the most underrated restaurant in town. I worked here for over a year, from personal experience and being able to see what goes on behind closed doors I can confidently say that the efforts put into this restaurant are applaudable. Customers used to always ask me what I would recommend off the menu, to which I responded that you can not go wrong with anything you choose. Every dish on that menu is made in house, where Amit and the kitchen staff would spend hours perfecting before they would confidently serve it. The curries are some of the best curries you will ever taste, and if you get chance I strongly recommend the butter chicken, because you will never taste anything like it.
Since I started work there Amit, the owner, has not taken a day off, he is constantly striving to prepare nothing less than perfect dishes. When I was the only person running the front he would finish making the dishes and help me serve them when it got hectic. This was an amazing place to work, as Amit, his wife and daughters took me in as their own and treated me like family.
I could go on with thousands of reasons why I recommend this place, but I’ll let you try it for yourselves. I will never stop...
Read moreThe first most impression of the venue was quite welcoming. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, nice bright, high ceilings. Very clean and well kept. Even though we went to order take out. We became quite determined to dine in with the service which was at offered right from the beginning. The service of the hostess was exceptionally amazing. We ordered n served with Chicken tikka Masala Combo after talking to the Chef n Owner Amith. Starting from, the time it took to served to the table from the time we ordered was quite outstanding. Even though there were few other tables were occupied. Three things I take to consideration presentation, Aroma, and the taste was exceptionally amazing the dish we we ordered. The bread (Garlic Naan) was so mouth watering and appealing and was a good pairing with the chicken Tikka masala. It was a great experience. We will definitely recommend to our friends and for a nice who are keen on authentic Indian cuisine. Thank you Amith and his amazing team for the great experience from the service to the food plus in over all. Definitely we will try more of your other dishes as...
