Vintage Tap House — Restaurant in Alberta

Worst customer service experience ever. I understand that we are in unprecedented times, however when we arrived at the restaurant there were no staff to greet us and no sign requesting us to wait to be seated. Therefore my husband and I proceeded to sit at an empty table. We were meeting several friends there which the staff had split up between a few tables due to small group restrictions - which is totally fine. However one of the tables only had 3 of our friends at it so I asked if we could move and sit with our friends (because I wanted to ask before just moving). At that point I was yelled at in front of all the other customers in the restaurant and berated for not knowing the rules. When I asked if the staff could explain the rule to me on why 2 of us could not join 3 of our friends at their table I was again yelled at by the manager from across the restaurant instead of coming over to our table to speak to us privately. The manager finished by saying "that if I didn't like it I could leave". Needless to say, we absolutely left (as so did all of our friends) as I have never been treated more unprofessionally and rudely in my life. Customers beware. If you do not know every new COVID restaurant rule do not go to Vintage as you will be yelled at and embarrassed in front of the entire restaurant. The Manager is not willing to explain the rules or talk to you privately at your table but instead will yell at you in front of everyone. So unprofessional! I hope he now is just as embarrassed as I was for his actions. I also would like to apologize for all the other customers who were trying to enjoy their meals as I am sure this was definitely disruptive but it was never our intention to break any rules. I was simply asking a question and was yelled at, berated and embarrassed for it. I'm still a little bit in shock of how rudely we were treated. I certainly hope others do not receive the same...

This review was done with three things in mind - food service cleanliness Food is outstanding - I had the steak sandwich with double stuffed and starter caesar salad; the great tasting caesar salad was the start to my culinary experience with Vintage and it set the stage for the exceptional main course that followed. If you have not tried their steaks - you are missing out. They are seasoned to perfection - and grilled to your desired taste - amazingly mouthwatering (even as I write this review, my mouth is watering at the thought of these steaks. lol). I have always been a fan of the double stuffed potato and they do not disappoint. Thank you to the owners and the chefs that worked to create this amazing dining experience for the customers. Service - customer service is outstanding - they are knowledgeable and attentive to their customer's needs. In a small rural town, where cosmos aren't a go-to drink. - these bartenders outdid themselves. Thank you. Cleanliness - the pub and restaurant are exceptionally clean - and well maintained. Deeply appreciate going into a restaurant or pub where cleanliness is important to the staff and owners. Makes the dining experience based from peace of mind; the care and attention to details is not lost on this customer. 5 stars - for the consistency in the preparation of food and delivery in presentation. - the quality of food is outstanding. The service is always consistent and efficient even when busy. Don't forget to tip your servers. ;) Overall experience was a 5 star. 2022: The bad: Service is marginal at best. We had empty beer glass sitting at the edge of the table in full view for 15 min… we got up and got the beer eventually from the bar. No apology given. Simple food took 45 min. Music way too loud and distorted. The waitress does not like her job. Or people. The good: the food is actually surprisingly great. The pizza was top notch. The Mac & Cheese belongs in a museum! We’ll done! Good selection of beer!

Verdict: I’d come again… but ask for a different server.

2023: Update: 11 months later we (3 of us) returned. The first 25 minutes was bizarre! We didn’t get greeted, no service, not even a glance at us. AND we sat easy viewing from the main bar. There were at least 2 other couples that sat down and got served after we came in. We walked up to the bad and asked to talk to the manager to get served. However, once they realized that we fell between the cracks, we got great service by Rochelle including a round of beer on the house. ALSO, as last year the food was top notch.

Upshot: There is a pattern here. I will update next year.

2024 Aug: Mother of God! Two consecutive years with crappy service… and this year Elizabeth knocks it out of the park. We had service 20 seconds after we sat down. Well done!!! We haven’t had our food yet, but I suspect it will be great!
