My wife and I hired Mike Benci of Pizza 249 to cater our wedding. Because we wanted a fun, kid friendly menu, we pitched Mike the idea of a hot dog buffet, a challenge he enthusiastically rose to. He put together a really well curated list of toppings and sauces that provided endless delicious combinations of "elevated" street food style dogs, along with some really delicious salads and hearty chili, all for a reasonable price that fit perfectly within our budget. Leading up to the wedding, we found Mike receptive to our needs, and easy to communicate with, and on the night of the event, he pulled the menu off without a hitch. We were curious how a hot dog dinner would be received by wedding guests, but the feedback we received was perfect, with many guests telling us it was one of their favorite wedding dinners ever. Naturally, the kids in attendance were over the moon about all the crazy toppings available, but for the foodies in the crowd, things like smoked ketchup, basil aioli, truffle mayo and fried red peppers made for all kinds of tasty combinations. Later in the night, Mike popped by with some delicious pizzas for a midnight snack. I've long heard local friends rhapsodize over the 249 brand, so my expectations were high, but Mike blew them out of the water. Pizza arrived piping hot and amazingly fresh considering the size of the order. The quality was ridiculously good, with a crisp, buttery crust full of flavor and heaping toppings that I've come to associate with the best of prairie style pizza. You could tell by the ravenous crowd gathered around the pies that everyone felt pretty much the same as I did, and I'll definitely be grabbing some slices next time I'm in town. On another note, I had an opportunity to chat with Mike about some of the good work his business does for the hungry and unhoused folks in Drum, which made me feel even better about choosing him to cater our event. He seems like a genuinely good dude who cares about the welfare of his town, and that's exactly the kind of business we're...
Read moreWhen travelling alone, I always get pizza - and always local.
Got a Greek Special & a Cheese pizza. The wait was a bit long as they were backed up (and then some as they burnt the pizza the first time around - I'd have still eaten a well done pizza but they probs chucked it out). No big deal. I had nowhere to be, and just took the opportunity to walk downtown Drumheller. The dude did rectify it by offering a free can of pop.
The pizzas were delicious. The cheese & ingredients used were great, and the dough had just the right amount of crisp. The appearance of their pizzas invites you to feed on them. Also, it's quite impressive that their pizzas didn't get soggy. I didn't get to dig into them right away because I miscalculated how far the spot was that I picked to eat my dinner at - hot pizza in a box, moisture build up, you know? Not good. But the pizzas survived!
My parents are picky about pizza (as in, they strictly stick to chains), however, even they enjoyed the Greek Special.
Whenever I'm in Drumheller next and we're getting pizza for dinner, I'm 110% definitely going back here!
Thanks for such...
Read moreWe came in with two small children and ordered a couple of pizzas, some pasta (without sauce) and some Mac and cheese bites. The staff (very nice otherwise) said that they couldn’t guarantee that they’d get the pasta right because they’d never done it before!! Never cooked spaghetti before??! We also have been waiting for our order for nearly an hour. Haven’t eaten yet but even if the pizza is amazing, I won’t bump it up. The pizza dough is pre-made in the morning also. Also, it doesn’t look super clean. I like the old fashioned decor though. Still, I wouldn’t ever come back here. The order just came out and the small $15 pasta is smaller than a microwave dinner. (The response from the staff is that you get two for one - that’s their schtick) but still, this is bordering...
