The food at Tides was excellent, but what truly stood out was the service and kindness of the staff. We arrived in Alma late at night after an unpleasant incident on the road, only to find most restaurants already closed and unwilling to seat us. Tides was also winding down for the evening, but when we walked in, Mark, whom I initially thought was the head chef (he was in his own attire), immediately noticed our situation. He reassured us, sat us down, and said, “Let’s figure out your dinner first, and then worry about your stay.” He called one of his staff and asked him to take care of us, and they did look after us with kindness and patience, never once showing frustration about serving us so late. The food they served us was excellent and freshly made, despite the closing hours we came in. They checked in multiple times to make sure we were comfortable, well-fed, and taken care of.
The next morning, before leaving Alma, I returned to thank Mark personally — and that’s when I learned he actually owns the place. During the entire conversation, I realized he’s not only a great host but a genuinely kind and clam person who really cares about other people. He could have refused to serve us yesterday, or he could have had his staff deal with us, but he went out of his way to assure us not to worry.
What a gentleman. In a stressful moment, he and his team showed compassion and hospitality and went above and beyond what you’d ever expect from a restaurant. For that reason alone, I’ll always remember that Tides is more than a place with good food and a great view, but it’s a place where the people make all...
Read moreI can't review the food as we didn't have a chance to try it or see the inside. Last summer while we were visiting from away with our children, enjoying a beautiful walk around Alma we decided to stop for a quick moment to view the menu of this restaurant online on our phone to see if it would be suitable for us. (I struggle to walk and read on my phone and we have disabilities that require us to take frequent breaks when exercising). In the one minute time frame we stopped at one of their outdoor picnic tables, before we had a chance to decide - we were yelled at from across the lawn that we were not allowed to sit at their picnic tables (even though there was no one else around and absolutely no signage - we didn't even realize the picnic tables were with the restaurant because of the way we happened upon them during a walk around the wharf area) we were told we were on private property and to leave to which the lady was very aggressive about and instantly turned her back on us without the chance for us to explain we were only there for less than a moment thinking about possibly dining at their establishment. So we left and have enjoyed dining at all other restaurants in the area, but unfortunately due to this experience we won't be able to comment...
Read moreWe were driving from Peggy's Cove Nova Scotia to the Bay of Fundy and wanted to pick a spot where we could have dinner and watch the tide. We chose Alma and The Tides Restaurant to combine these two experiences and were quite pleased with the result. It was nearly a four hour drive, but we were able to view the Bay of Fundy for the last hour once we passed through Moncton. Route 114 is a pretty drive, and at one point the fog began to roll in and we thought maybe we had made a mistake choosing this location and that we would not be able to see either the bay or the road ahead. As it turned out, we rose up out of the fog and the sun reappeared just as we arrived at the quaint downtown area of Alma. The dining room is large with picture windows looking out onto the Bay of Fundy. The tide was out when we arrived so three large boats were sitting on the mud 30 feet below the dock. Our cheerful and helpful waitress delivered delicious food, pasta with seafood for me, and for my carnivore husband, a delicious rack of ribs. The blueberry almond salad was very tasty as well. As a bonus, Alma is immediately adjacent to the Bay of Fundy National Park, so you can explore the park after dinner and continue to...
