I recently had to drive a group down from the comox valley to shawnigan lake and drop them off and then pick them up 6 hours later. I knew I needed a coffee and came across a neat convenience store right near the lake , but just didn’t feel like the gas station / convenience store coffee on this day so I googled “best coffee in shawnigan Lake” and got a direct hit with Shawnigan House Coffee and chocolate ! Well!! Let me tell you !!! After sitting down with a caramel latte and starting light chat with a few customers and the staff, I found myself in the exact spot 4 hours later !!! I read an amazing paper, I bought some local art from a local artist that they kindly display and sell for them and I most importantly met the amazing owners and found an incredible energy and something pretty special from one of the new staff and very good friends if the owners! You could not ask for anything more from a local business from a world class guest experience than here! We even had resident Turkeys that came by for a visit !! How cool is that!!! The snacks are great, the coffee is hot and savory, the music is chill , but most importantly the company and hospitality from the staff is dreamy!!! Thank you for an amazing day while I made my first visit to your secret utopia at Shawnigan Lake ! It definitely won’t be my last. See you all very soon!!! PS: they’ll even throw a rugby game on their big screen if you ask them nicely...
Read moreWe came back for the Shawnigan Fog and chocolates this morning on our way to the airport for our return to San Francisco.
Our first visit was two days ago because it was next to Oma’s Bakery and I LOVED their Shawnigan Fog. Trevor, the owner, said he and his wife, Lisa, made it in-house so they could control the sweetness and quality (no fillers or preservatives). The same for their Shawnigan Chai, which are their two most popular drinks.
If you like earl grey tea, the Shawnigan Fog is phenomenal. My husband ordered and enjoyed their house brew coffee, also good, but he tried my drink and also agreed it was fantastic.
I also bought a selection of their house chocolates and bon bons for us and as a gift for our hosts and the chocolates are world class. I am a bit of chocoholic and frequently buy chocolate as gifts for friends and family so I’ve had a range of samples for comparison.
Today, I tried the Chai and I can confirm it is also delicious. Both drinks are just the right amount of sweet, not cloying, and flavorful. My husband, a passionate coffee guy, got the Fog.
I bought more chocolate sweets for our trip home and as a gift for my mother-in-law. We enjoyed chatting some more with Trevor and Lisa this morning and learning about their story.
Treat yourself to one of their drinks- tea or coffee- and chocolates if you’re in the...
Read moreThis is a very quaint cafe in Shawnigan lake, with a great location!
Unfortunately, service was not great, the menu is posted on a tv wall mount and pans every few seconds making it difficult to see their drink options, and nothing has prices listed.
My wife and I went in and had ordered an iced mocha, and a 16oz Americano, to which it came out to be around $13.51. Quote expensive, but if it's a great product, it's all part of the experience. Sadly this was not the case. The Americano tasted akin to water that had steeped cigarette butts closer in quality to something you get from a Folgers can. The iced mocha was very milky and has very mild chocolate flavouring. If the pricing was respective to the quality I wouldn't have had as much an issue with this, but charging top dollar (and lacking transparency) for sub-optimal product is very disappointing and somewhat feels like a...
