Edmonton is truly a foodie paradise with a huge variety of restaurants representing flavours from all over the world. While I do have go-to's for almost every cuisine, I love to try new restaurants. Jin's is rated really well on multiple platforms and for a light meal this evening I was looking forward to a delicious Wor Wonton soup with some spring rolls and green onion cake. Delivery was quite prompt, tracking the delivery from the restaurant directly to the door without any stops. This looked to be a great start, until it was discovered the food was barely warm. The large soup was just enough for 2 people, which was quite surprising considering the medium was rated for 3-4 people. The broth was salty with no other distinguishing flavour, rather than the delicious complex flavours I was expecting. While there was a lot of vegetables, wontons, shrimp and a few pieces of pork and chicken, despite this array there was no other flavour than salty broth. The vietnamese spring rolls had a heavy taste of grease or dirty oil and the filling was mushy, tasting closer to an egg roll than a pork spring roll. There was very little meat, and the flavour was not appealing. The green onion cake looked wonderful, although again, other than the heavy taste of grease or dirty oil, it was flavourless. Read moreGot home late, was starving and craving Chinese food. Guess what was open until 2 am? Jin's Chinese Cuisine, and it blew me away. You only need to know two things: They give you delicious food, and they give you a lot of it.
I ordered the dinner for two, because I was starving and leftover Chinese food sounded like a good idea to me. I think it was $36 + tax? And you get to choose any two main dishes, so you can get something different every time.
I had a heaping plate full of food along with a wonton soup, and I have enough leftovers for another heaping plate full of food with another wonton soup. Are you kidding me??? Please, take my money. I might accidentally spend it somewhere else.
I've experienced too many restaurants that are happy to churn out the bare minimum. Low effort, low quality food, because it makes more money and everyone else does it too?
Or, I could never eat from those places ever again, and order from Jin's Chinese Cuisine because it's...
Read moreI was thoroughly disappointed with my experience at this restaurant, especially considering the number of 5-star reviews it has. We ordered several dishes, and overall, the food lacked flavor and was overwhelmingly salty—particularly the vegetables. To make things worse, the food wasn’t even served hot, which was surprising given how empty the restaurant was.
One of the dishes, the chicken with cashew, arrived much later than everything else, and the only explanation we were given was that it “takes longer to cook.” The delay was frustrating, especially since our table had already received our other meals.
Customer service also left a lot to be desired. We had to ask for basic things like water and extra napkins, and the server seemed uninterested in serving us. The experience from start to finish was underwhelming.
I genuinely expected more from a place with so many great reviews, but unfortunately, I...
