My first experience of Somali food was in the early 2000's and it was entirely positive. The food was simple and excellent and the people were wonderful. Those first few Somali restaurants struggled but, they've found a niche here now and, they're well worth a visit. They're like the best Mom & Pop restaurants I grew up with in small town Alberta. Simple food, served by really nice people who are proud of what they cook and want to feed you.
The Samosa House is one of the best examples of this kind of down-home casual cafe-restaurant. I fist came here a couple years ago and have been back often. The food is a bit of a mix but is basically Somali. I've always enjoyed eating here, the service is warm and friendly and the food is great. If take-out is your game. They have a thriving business in takeaway meals and Samosas too.
I also come here for the cakes and coffee. It's normal, brewed coffee but they add seasonings to it that I absolutely love. They've told me what's in the coffee but I made myself forget so that I have an excuse for returning here every time I'm in the area. The baked treats tend to vary and I always stop to see what's available. This is one of my favourite cafe's in Edmonton. Casual, friendly, and informal. I heartily...
Read moreBest samosa in Edmonton! Hands down! Wow, I came here for the first time yesterday and what a lovely experience it was! If you’ve never been here before you have got to pay Samosa House a visit. We had the asria combo which came with 2 samosas, 2 bajiya, bur/mandazi, malawax, halwo and your choice of Somali tea or coffee. We had two beef samosas and added 2 fish as well. The samosas are fried fresh when you order and have incredible texture and a delicious filling. They come with a vibrant and tasty sauce that pairs so well with it.
The customer service was incredible and we hope to be back soon! The samosa alone are worth the visit but the plentiful options, tasty food and kind customer service truly make this place the lovely...
Read moreThis is a poor excuse for a Somali restaurant. They clearly hate white people here. Went there tonight with my wife, son, sister in law and niece and was treated like rubbish. My wife and son is Somali. I’m a white Canadian. The teramasu was clearly a day old... sambusas were dry and the pineapple cake was stale. The table was dirty. To top it off the “tea” (first batch) was clearly hot water with milk poorer in and not even stirred. My sister in law had to yell at them to fix the tea. I can put up with all that if the staff is friendly... but they were jerks. Avoid this. Too the owner, replace your staff they don’t care about your...
