Smoke's Poutinerie Barrie — Restaurant in Barrie

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place because I was craving poutine. I used to hear very good things about this place but recently I’ve noticed business hasn’t been too good but Ofcourse I looked past it because I was hungry.

Second we walk in I noticed a terrible smell near the bathrooms which were locked for some reason and the place looks very run down. Garbage left around, sticky tables, the chairs were rickety.

On top of that when we were ready to order we realized it was only one worker. He was very friendly but seemed a bit distracted. I ordered the original poutine and my bf ordered something with pulled pork and bacon both regular sized with no sides or drinks… the total came up to 32$! Extremely over priced for two small poutines.

Took about 20 minutes for our food to be ready even tho there was only one person ahead of us.

When we received our food we went home to eat and he said his tasted fine other than the bacon seemed undercooked… I immediately thought something was wrong with mine. The fries seemed old and tbh tasted very dry, they were both very salty, the cheese tasted like it had gone bad… but we both ate them because we didn’t want to waste money. I guess that was a bad idea because not even an hour later my bf started saying he felt sick, later that night when he got home he said he was super nauseous and around the same time so was I… I ended up throwing up most the night but luckily he was able to head to bed without being sick…

But overall I will not be returning to this restaurant. Especially not now after I was informed by my sister in law that she found a dead spider...

Don't waste your money here. We waited 30 mins for our poutine, guy told us that Uber eats gets priority. Not only that but the poutine itself is one of the worst I've had. Fries are hard and definitely not fresh. The worst. I wanted to go ask for a refund but didn't have time. Also there should be more ppl working not just 1 person. Just terrible. This has got to be the worst Smokes so far. Even the food trucks are better. How do u mess this up? Do better or shut down.

Reply for owner: the long wait time is one thing and I can overlook that but the real issue here is the quality of your food!!! If you took the time to read more reviews you would see it's pretty consistent. Even comments from a year ago have the same complaint. Clearly, you haven't addressed it. The fries are terrible. They are stale and hard. I've never had fries like this ever before. I don't need a free meal, cuz I'm not coming back there ever again. But do better for other customers at least. This is not acceptable. I feel like I got cheated, paid over $30 for very very crappy food. Doesn't seem like you care about your business since you've allowed this to go on...

I used to love this place, but the last couple times we ordered through Skip the Dishes it was always wrong. Minor things, so we mostly brushed it off. Today we ordered again, two vegetarian poutines with cheese sauce and guacamole.

The poutines came with just cheese sauce. When we called about it, the person on the other end was dismissive and sounded annoyed and told us they didn't have guacamole and didn't know why it was on there. When we noted that we had paid extra for it, he told us to take it up with Skip the Dishes.

I get that there's a good possibility that this has been an ongoing problem caused by Skip listing guacamole that isn't available, but if we're paying for an extra item I would hope for someone to contact us so we can pick another topping or a different poutine. I actually really love your poutines to be honest but I'm not going to keep ordering if I'm repeatedly...
