Forgive me if I get carried away about Sushi and Tree but it’s so hard to find a consistently good eatery in Barrie that doesn’t drop in food quality as time goes on, lose its chef or isn’t too busy with what Catherine wants.
Barrie has been long overdue for an a la cart sushi restaurant that hits the spot like Sushi and Tree. There used to be a great place years ago on Anne Street but Diamond (diaper) Sushi took over the spot.
Sushi and Tree is a two-person show run by the most wonderful couple Sue and Ken. Sue does most of the front of house stuff while Ken puts together the beautiful sushi rolls.
Every appetizer or roll is executed perfectly and you’ll notice how fresh everything tastes. The beef gyoza are the best I’ve ever had and you’ll notice the difference in the meat filling. I love a good wakame salad and theirs is top notch. I’ve tried many of their special maki rolls and there’s a modern twist with the rolls they do. They think about texture and flavour working together which you’ll notice with the commonly ordered dynamite roll. I like that their spicier rolls are actually spicy as well since most places tone it down. Now when I stop in, I ask Sue to surprise me since they are always creating new dishes. My only regret is not yet trying their ramen but I’ll get to that one of these days. They also have a full vegetarian menu that I see vegans rave about on social media.
We always eat at the establishment but it’s mostly a takeout spot and you’ll notice as each regular comes in, how warm the welcoming they are. Every customer shares a story and Sue makes them feel right at home.
They are located in the short lived Bird’s Nest Barrie spot near the Five Points intersection so be sure to check them out. I’d be shocked if anyone doesn’t feel nothing but love for this newer eatery.

Read moreNestled in the heart of the city, Sushi and Tree is a charming sushi restaurant that offers an experience as delightful as its cuisine. Run by a husband-and-wife duo, this quaint eatery embodies the essence of hospitality and culinary expertise.
From the moment you step in, Sue, the co-owner, greets you with a warmth that feels like coming home. Her friendly demeanor and attentive service set the tone for a memorable dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant, intimate and inviting, complements the personal touch that Sue brings to the table.
The real magic, however, happens behind the scenes where Sue’s husband, a sushi maestro, crafts each dish with precision and passion. The sushi here is not just food; it’s a work of art. The freshness of the ingredients, the balance of flavors, and the presentation are unparalleled, making it the best sushi one could ask for.
In an adventurous twist, we upgraded our Maki Medium Platter to include the intriguing Snow Dragon Maki. While this special roll didn't quite soar to the heights of the other selections, it added a unique flair to our sushi adventure, proving that even the less stellar dishes at Sushi and Tree are crafted with care and worth a try.
In summary, Sushi and Tree is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of love—both in the culinary arts and in the care taken to ensure each guest leaves with a smile. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic and heartwarming sushi experience.
#Update: their new BB roll...
Read moreOur lady server was very kind and lovely. She was patient and serene in how she attended to us. She was also amiable to chat with at the end as we were getting ready to leave. Keeping in mind that the place is called Sushi and Tree, it was a cool detail to know that she was actually Korean (not Japanese).
For a restaurant named Sushi and Tree, it was nice that they still have ramen available on their menu. While there are only just a couple of ramen dishes in the menu, the RS6 Spicy Katsu Cheese Ramen ($23) we sampled was special. The cheese slice that came with the ramen slowly melted and mixed into the broth, producing a rich, creamy soup. The generous portions of katsu that were part of the dish were also perfectly fried and complemented the rest of the dish nicely.
Our group that came in all ordered the Spicy Katsu Cheese Ramen, and it did take a while for the order to be ready. Our hostess did mention that detail early and politely informed us about it. It was a welcome surprise that she gave us some spring rolls on the house for our wait.
This restaurant is a good recommendation for the cheese ramen and the exceptional service. It was just a little unfortunate that the available indoor seating was not too many. As we were dining, several customers came in looking to dine, but had to cancel because there just were not enough table spaces to accommodate...
