Bad Franchise, In my opinion. Wanted to buy a franchise. Spent $5k on a lawyer to review franchise disclosure document. They want you to do a major renovation EVERY 5 years!! A cash grab in my eyes. Keeps his brother the construction guy employed. Ask other restaurant how often they do a major renovation. Typically every 10 years. Minimum $75k per renovation I was told. When I first met the owner and rep they said things would cost a certain amount and I have email exchanges to verify, that later were not what was stated. Construction fee was one item. Now if they truly want you to succeed as a partnership or marriage of sorts they would give you even a month for a royalty free period just to help you out after spending $325k to open the restaurant. Not with them. Wouldn’t even give the first month royalty free. Most places understand and give you something. I’ve signed on with a different franchise system. Dealing with great people. Truly out to make it succeed as a partnership. I only asked for 1 month royalty free and they easily agreed. Good people to deal with. Feel very comfortable with them which I didn’t feel with Stacked after I spent my $5k on lawyer fees and dealing with them. Ended up having 29 questions / concerns for them after the lawyer did his work and I probably had a few more but you need to pick your battles. I should’ve done this review right after to warn people off but never got around to it. Wanted to do a blog actually. They’ve opened some locations who will make money but I think they’ll regret it after dealing with people only interested in how much money you can give them as opposed to how much money you can both earn and be successful. My family and I did eat at Stacked. The burgers were good but the steak was very small. I do have a picture saved to my phone but that was almost a year ago. Not searching for it. Sure, go ahead and eat there but if you want to buy a franchise, strongly consider your options. I actually wanted two locations but wound up not even with one. Had a terrific site in Oakville lined up (They most definitely would’ve agreed to the site) if we could’ve agreed on things. Also had a spot in Georgetown on Guelph St. that I was keeping tight lipped about during this process. Prime street exposure. What could’ve been. Too bad. But I’m in a happier place now dealing with franchisor’s that I like and TRUST. Nice family.
Anyhow, good luck in your franchise venture. I did speak with a franchisee who said he should’ve gotten a better lawyer. Guess he found out AFTER it was too late. Remember, when getting a lawyer or anything else, you get what you pay for. My lawyer was excellent and well worth the money, don’t be cheap here or you’re spending $75k minimum every 5 years on a major remodel and so on. That has to say something though about possible regrets doesn’t it when you say you should’ve gotten a better lawyer as...
Read moreMe and my friend’s family had a brunch at the Essa Stacked location in Barrie last weekend. I am extremely unhappy with the service we received from your employee Becca. I spoke to our waitress after the brunch and expressed my concerns, telling her we would be writing a review of this experience. We walked in just over an hour before close- plenty of time to eat and get out before close- and Becca rolled her eyes at my friend’s mother when she walked in to be seated. This immediately is unacceptable. Having worked in the service industry for several years myself, I know that this is a very inappropriate way to greet a customer. Actually, a very good way to lose loyal customers like ourselves. Next, they brought my friend’s parents the wrong order and hesitated to replace it. When they finally did, the side of gravy that was ordered had gotten cold. They asked Becca for a new order of it, as she’d brought over the food. She took it to the kitchen and yelled loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear “the customer says the gravy is cold! Just warm it up or something!” Again, completely unacceptable behaviour. There was no need to embarrass them the way she did. Like I said to our waitress, you never know what kind of day someone is having. That is not how people should be treated. This waitress Becca should be spoken to. Having worked as a waitress myself, I know the importance of customer interactions, and this one was extremely rude. Not to mention, we were polite with every request made. To be met with such disrespect was extremely off putting. The food (when corrected) was fine. Enjoying it in such an uncomfortable environment on the other hand-...
Read moreJust another one more Burger Joint?!
My family and I used to go to the "old" more country style breakfast place on Essa Rd and recently also to their Stacked franchise in Stroud.
This is now the past. We no longer will visit any of their establishments.
When picking up food on this rainy day I was terribly and unprofessionally patronized and acosted by an employee who requested I bring over the thermal delivery bag or there would be nothing. He also stated that he and his colleague had watched me in the car waiting for many minutes (I had a phone call).
Was is that employee's business? The online app delivery request had no mention of having to bring over a bag to be handed the food outside. It stated to go inside the restaurant which I had done before with no issue. I also wore a mask which the employees did not do.
According to the "BOSS" bringing over the thermal bag is a must or no food, no delivery. So I was sent back into the rain to bring the thermal bag rather then being given the food bag to take over to my car into the thermal bag. I now acted like an employee on this for now last delivery for them.
Could they get their facts straight: provide precise pickup instructions?
If their in restaurant employees had time to watch me: why did they not contact or accomodate and bring over the food bag (20ft)?
Being a patron was OK, being a supporting essential services delivery driver is not?
What a sad experience and what badly trained staff and...
