Taj Bistro — Restaurant in Barrie

Edit: 7/24/2025 I have been a Taj customer since they first opened, but I find that I must drop my 5-star rating to 3-stars. The quality of the food has declined significantly the last several times I have ordered.

The sauces have either been incredibly oily or the meal has been incorrectly spiced.

The 2nd last time I ordered I had to skim approx 1/2” oil off of all of the curries in order to eat them. I thought it couldn’t get worse than that but….

Yesterday, I ordered 2 mild curries as Taj ‘mild’ is typically an acceptable spice level. It can vary between mild and quite spicy when you order ‘mild’. My youngest child isn’t the biggest fan of spicy food so we always order ‘mild’ and hope the meal is on the milder side.

Unfortunately, yesterday’s order was so spicy it was nearly inedible. The meal was certainly unpleasant to eat and much was wasted. Even I, who grows and enjoys some significantly hot peppers, could not finish my plate. It was ridiculously spicy. Very disappointing.

With the decline in quality I will not be ordering from Taj any longer and will sadly have to look elsewhere to satisfy my Indian food cravings.

I had an extraordinary dining experience at Taj Bistro , and it has quickly become my favorite spot for Indian cuisine! From the moment we entered, we were welcomed with warm smiles and a cozy, vibrant atmosphere that truly set the stage for a fantastic meal.

The menu offers a wide array of authentic Indian dishes, each more enticing than the last. We started with the samosas and paneer tikka, both of which were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The flavors were rich and truly authentic, transporting us straight to India with each bite.

For the main course, we indulged in the butter chicken and lamb vindaloo. The butter chicken was creamy and luscious, with a perfect balance of spices, while the lamb vindaloo had just the right amount of heat and tenderness. The garlic naan and basmati rice complemented the dishes beautifully, allowing us to savor every bit of the delicious sauces.

The service was impeccable – our server was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. The attention to detail in both the food presentation and the overall service was impressive.

To top off our meal, we tried the gulab jamun for dessert, and it was the perfect sweet ending. Soft, warm, and soaked in a delightful syrup, it was simply divine.

Disappointed with the behaviour of the girl on cash desk with the co worker of the restaurant! She is super rude with the staff and disrespects them infront of guests. Girl you need to grow up, don’t take anyone for granted and it’s easy to blame others. The Girl was taking our order and got a phone call left us in between saying excuse me I got a call, on top of that claims his coworker if he cannot see the food and serve the food while he was already cleaning the table. Moreover, when served our order was incomplete and we asked to complete it and she left us in between after requesting the other guy he completed our order. Anyways, was finally done with dinner and now need to ask for containers ,bill and guess what she is just pretending to be busy, taking orders and packing take out orders but can’t help out dine in tables which would barely take 5 min or even less, got that after 20 mins. Girl you need to work as a team and not try to show your teammates that they are inferior.I can’t help myself seeing someone treated bad so had to talk to Manager.Eventually blames the guy for everything. Who was genuinely, being his first day of job was more into his duties. His hospitality was remarkable asked twice or thrice in between for everything needful ! Man heads off to you🫡
