The Original Barrie Burger on Yonge is the best burger in Ontario - period. I have been going to Barrie Burger for about 20 years now and it has consistently remained an excellent experience. I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you have passed through Barrie and went to another Barrie Burger location, it is important to know that this location is miles ahead of the others. Barrie Burger is a staple that I hope never goes away.
There are a few elements that sets Barrie Burger apart:
The Banquet Burger's shaved peameal bacon. Playing baseball growing up, our teams would generally try to find the best burger place a city had while at tournaments. I have been to all of the "institution" top-tier burger places in southern Ontario (e.g Super Burger and Champ Burger in Shelbourne, C & Dubbs in Mississauga, Burger Shack in Toronto, Johnny's Hamburgers Scarborough, just to name a few) and the Barrie Burger shaved peameal bacon is the difference maker. This gives the banquet burger the edge over every other similar burger in Ontario.
The onion rings. Barrie Burger's onion rings are somewhat unique in that they are lightly battered and thinner than most other similar top-tier burger establishments. While some may prefer a thicker onion ring to give more onion flavour, that approach comes with an inherent danger of over-battering (see e.g. the donut-style onion rings of Burger Shack in Toronto). Barrie Burger's thin onion rings always have the perfect amount of batter and are a must-have.
The french fries. Whether through finding the perfect oil temperature or the right potato thickness, Barrie Burger has mastered the french frie. Fries come unsalted because they surprisingly need none. Crisp outside, soft inside.
The chicken souvlaki dinner. This dish comes with a lot of food. I think the chicken preparation has changed slightly since the pandemic (I recall it being a bit more spiced like your traditional souvlaki meat), but overall, this is the hungry person's dinner. The value here is unmatched.
Last but not least, the people. Mikayla (and I hope I'm getting the spelling right) has been running the resteraunt for (roughly) 12 years now since the purchase from the previous family. I don't think she's taken a day off since. I also have to give a shout out to the guy who has been working the grills these long years. I've never spoken to him, but this man is a legend. In such an understated manner, he has been grilling up the best food in Barrie for years uncounted. His presence, as well as Mikayla's, has really ensured consistency in the great food.
I hope I have convinced you to try the Original Barrie Burger on Yonge St. You will not regret it. For those who are passing through Barrie, this Barrie Burger location is a worthwhile detour (Optimal route - Exit 400 at Mapleview, travel east on Mapleview until you hit Huronia, turn left, follow Huronia until you hit Little Ave, turn right, and Barrie Burger is at the top...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in the service, or lack thereof, I just received today.
My family and I have been going to this establishment for almost 25 years and have never had a problem with their food or service until Covid hit. Unfortunately, my partner was unable to wear a mask and wanted to order some food. Mikayla, one of the Owners, refused to serve him without a mask (which is discriminating in itself) and asked him to leave and would not serve him. He did not understand why they were being prejudiced against him, because he was physically unable to wear a mask. Instead of settling this professionally and empathetically, they called the police on him and had him escorted off their property.
Flash forward a few years, when everyone realized that the mask did NOT protect anyone against Covid and the mandates were lifted, I went in to get my Daughter our usual order, and I was denied service simply because I was married to someone, they think was being intentionally defiant.
This is the worst form of discrimination I have ever witnessed! I will never go back to that establishment again and I will stop promoting their business going forward. In the past, we told everyone what a great place this was. Sadly, it no longer is.
Very disappointing and truly the most unprofessional restaurant I have...

When the lights went out across Barrie last weekend, Barrie Burger lit up the community — not just with power (they had debit working, y’all 🙌), but with kindness, hustle, and next-level service.
While most spots were shuttered, this little burger haven kept things moving like a well-oiled machine. The lines? Handled. The crowd? Calm. The vibe? Straight-up wholesome. Staff kept every order organized with Jedi-level precision — no confusion, no chaos, just pure, delicious efficiency.
They were incredibly accommodating to both dine-in folks and those just popping in to grab a hot meal to go. Everyone got treated with warmth and respect — something rare even on a good day, let alone during a blackout.
And the food? Still 🔥. Still juicy. Still Barrie Burger perfection. No cutting corners, no drop in quality — just full hearts and full bellies all around.
In a moment where the city felt a bit upside down, Barrie Burger was a reminder of what community feels like. Hats off to the staff and even the patrons — it was a shared moment of kindness and calm, powered by great food and even better humans.
10/10 would recommend — even during an...
