During Jul (Dec. 23rd), my daughter wanted to eat something spicy to celebrate it, so we thought we would try something different and give Peacock Modern Indian Cuisine a try.
I ordered a veggie Dosa which was very tasty and I considered it to be mild spicy. My wife ordered their weekly special (forget the name, not on the regular menu) but it was 3 layers of bread with egg omlete, beef and chicken cooked in banana leaf which she really enjoyed and she considered to be medium spicy. My daughter had the beef curry which she found on the spicy side for her. We both tried it and it was a heavier spice but still full of flavour.
It is a different setup there when it comes to ordering than we were used to. You go to the counter and order your food, but they brought it to our table. Once we figured that out it was all good.
We were hungry and quite honestly I forgot to take pictures of the food but it was very visually appealing as well as delicious. The restaurant was clean and well kept and I did visit the rest room before we left which was also clean as well.
My only critique would be I would recommend having maybe a couple options for sauces at different spice intensities. My family really enjoys the robust flavours of indian cuisine but some dishes can be spicer than we would like. If there were milder spice options it may open the door to more people to try and enjoy your food. Just some food for thought.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and will be back to try more menu...
Read moreI recently dined at peacock Restaurant in Halifax, and I must say it offers a fantastic range of South Indian dishes that truly capture the authentic flavors of the region. The variety on the menu is impressive, making it a great spot for anyone craving genuine South Indian cuisine.
I started my meal with the Chicken Mandi, which was incredibly flavorful. The chicken was tender, and the spices were spot on, delivering a rich and authentic taste. The dish was accompanied by mayonnaise and mint chutney sides, both of which were excellent and added a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the mandi. However, I did find the qubbos (pita bread) to be a bit disappointing—it didn’t seem as fresh as I had hoped, but it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the dish.
Next the most delicious paaal kaapaa was mouth watering one with authentic taste its a must try one i would recommend.
Next, I tried the Beef Khizhi Porotta, which was equally impressive. The beef was well-cooked, tender, and bursting with traditional spices. The porotta was fresh and flaky, making this dish an absolute treat.
To round off my meal, I had a Mango Falooda, which was superb. The sweetness and texture were perfectly balanced, making it a refreshing and delightful end to the meal.
Despite the minor issue with the pita bread, my experience was great overall. If you’re in Halifax and looking for authentic South Indian flavors, Peacock modern Indian Restaurant is definitely...
Read moreWorst food poisoning of my life. Last night after a long day at work then fishing with only some crackers and cheese in my stomach I decided that I was in the mood for a butter chicken treat because what’s better than butter chicken?!! Now as it was Tuesday my normal place wasn’t open and I decided to try something new. The girl at the counter was nice and the food smelled great so I thought I was going to settle in for a good night. When I opened my takeout the naan was fresh but the butter chicken was watery and starting to separate. Despite this and the fact that something tasted a bit different then what I was used to ( it had a small bit of a sour hit after a few bites) I ate my meal and went to bed. Well it wasn’t even an hour before I woke up sweating, keeled over unable to see straight barely able to walk to my bathroom. It’s now 9.45 in the morning and I look and feel like death hungover with only a couple hours of sleep and an inability to look at anything other than water and maybe a few saltine crackers. If you’re looking for a place to eat please don’t make the same mistake that I did, or if you do please for the love of all things good head there early when they might make things fresh for you and not at...
