When visiting Bayfield, it’s important to know that not all restaurants are open every day. On our first night here, the Black Dog Village Pub & Bistro was one of a few open for dinner. They do not take reservations and we were initially unaware that other restaurants were closed which meant everyone would flock to the few places which were opened for dinner. Having said this, they rotated their tables quite efficiently and the restaurant has a lot of seating especially with their outside patio. We preferred seating inside in an attempt to stay clear of the many bees outside… we were seated about 10 minutes after we got there which was awesome. It was surprising however for such a busy evening that we were not able to sit at the table as they only had one server for the inside tables. Nevertheless, we were happy to sit inside at the bar. We tried their Stack Burger and Trout. Both were huge serving and were super flavourful! We truly enjoyed our selections and cleared our plates clean!!!

Great spot for a date night. My wife and I both got the prime rib special. It was very good. We asked for horse radish and it was fresh and delicious. I really appreciated the atmosphere. It was an older building but with just enough of a modern touches to make it feel good. It’s too bad for Black Dog, and good for my wallet that I had to drive home. Their Scotch Whisky collection had some drams I’ve never tried before (which is not something most restaurants can say). I’ll definitely return to sample a few… especially their Highland Park and Ardbeg choices. 😋 Both the husband and wife owners were working the night we visited. I’ve often observed that when the owners care enough to be there, it really shows in the overall dining experience. Our visit confirmed that having the owners present makes a real difference. Black Dog is a bit of drive from our home, but we will definitely make the trip back to eat here again.

It was great, see my photo of what the Charcuterie Board used to look like, now it's mostly bread. Food is good still, just not great. After a few years, we decided to try it again, it has changed on the inside quite a bit. The menu has a good range, seems a bit short but it might be the time of year and other factors. The food was great, seems like an improvement. Not 100% sold on that cheese in the stack burger almost seemed like one step up from those kraft singles, oddly it kinda worked, like a Big Mac type deal. Overall a good experience, will come back this summer to try some more things off the menu. August 2023 update, went for lunch and had the shishito special appetizer which was really good except mine had a long hair in it. For the main I had the Reuben special with fries, it was also really good, service was great as usual. Cheers!

Not toddler friendly.

We had a long drive to Bayfield and arrived past noon. We were told that they can only put our name down but can’t make any reservations. Not knowing how long it would be and since it’s already past lunch time, I went across the street to get a hot dog for my 2 year old son who is also a very picky eater. If anyone’s travelled or had experience with toddlers, their moods are unpredictable and will just cry if they get hungry. I was trying to avoid that situation. The rest of the 4 adults can enjoy the meals from this restaurant. We were told the tables are full and had to wait. The table that could accommodate us just started their meals so it could be a while.

We eventually got seated and while we were looking at the menu, one lady (not sure if she’s the owner or not but she wasn’t our waitress) told us that they don’t allow outside food. We explained that this is only food our son will eat and just cut us off that if they allow for one then the others will follow. I completely understand that but we explicitly said the hot dog was only for our toddler and that the rest of us are ordering from this restaurant. Her whole entire attitude honestly made our experience sour. After we got our food, she then had the audacity to tell us that they have kids menu, which we were not informed even while waiting in line. I get that you want people to order from your restaurant but there are conditions where the restaurants we’ve been to are more accommodating to toddlers.

The food for reference is way overhyped. They’re not worth the prices they charge and we’ve had way better meals elsewhere around this price range.

We will not come back and no I don’t recommend this place. The staff is incredibly out of touch with...

I got sick off of the food. It was a terrible experience. Ive been here before with my husband last year on our honeymoon, other then the slow service that time, the food was great so we were excited to go back. We waited 40min for a table. When we were finally seated, no one took our drink order until 20min in. And then we waited another 20min after that to get the drinks. And again waited awhile to order our meals. I have a severe gluten and dairy allergy. So i always make sure to clarify that when i go out to eat. I was reassured twice that my meal would be safe to eat. Well after waiting a long time for the food to even get to our table, i took a small bite and then noticed that something resembled butter. I flagged down the waitress and asked what it was, her response? "Thats butter" are you kidding?! Thankfully i noticed that but even alittle makes me really sick. She took my plate back and said to wait a minute. She comes back about 5min later with a different plate. She tells me that i accidentally got someone else's meal, this one was mine. I started to eat that one. 1/4 of the way in, i noticed that the fish was completely raw in the middle. It was so disgusting!! I called the waitress back over and said i didnt want it anymore to take it away. My husband now couldnt enjoy his meal. They still charged us for the 2 drinks and starters. Which i think is unfair. That was a waste of almost 2 hours. I spent the rest of our anniversary extremely sick!! I will never go back and i wouldnt reccomend them to anyone....

Wife and I were out for a cruise and a "see where we end up" kinda date night and soooo glad we came across this absolutely incredible spot.. checking Google maps for restaurants and walked down they said an hour wait (give or take) so we checked out a place across the road and thought nah let's just wait DEFINITELY GLAD WE DID we waited all of 10 minutes and they opened up a spot, our server Sophie was awesome, honest and personable, the atmosphere was high end restaurant had a baby with a pub with an old classic feel, the menu didn't match what's on Google for a menu for the most part but we were pleasantly suprised, my wife wanted to try escargot for the first time , being we love trying new things and places for food, so we ordered our entres and got escargot.... WOW not at alll what I expected, blew both of our minds! And guaranteed isn't what you expect.. MUST TRY IT! I had the fish and chips (can tell alot about a place by burgers fish and chips and wings) and I was not let down .. amazing food great atmosphere and for both of us with drinks was under 100 bux! If I could give more stars I would definitely DONT miss this place if you're in Bayfield! You won't regret going but you'll definitely wish you did if you don't. Cheers the black dog and thanx for the great experience!!...
